"Somebody retired"; "One of my best friends" - Austin Dillon, Bubba Wallace & others pick ideal NASCAR driver to get 'stranded' with on an island
The NASCAR Cup Series drivers were asked at Homestead-Miami who they would want to be stuck on an island with. While guys like Austin Dillon did not name one, others picked drivers who they believe have strong survival skills, particularly those who could fish.
In an Instagram post by Chat Us Up, Austin Dillon said he would go with a driver who is not part of the current NASCAR grid.
“Somebody retired. Not in the garage.” Dillon said.
Meanwhile, Bubba Wallace first said he would rather not be stuck with Ryan Blaney on an island. However, the No. 23 23XI Racing Toyota driver took back what he said after he was asked whether he would be stuck with another driver instead.
“No, hell no. I’ll take Blaney,” Wallace stated.
Todd Gilliland had to choose between Harrison Burton and Michael McDowell. While Gilliland considered Burton as his best friend, the No. 38 Front Row Motorsports driver believes he could survive in the wild better with McDowell.
“I would say Harrison maybe because he’s one of my best friends. But I feel like Michael McDowell would be like a super ingenuitive one and I feel like he would save us, for sure,” Todd Gilliland said.
McDowell, however, went old school and chose Carl Edwards.
Both Harrison Burton and Noah Gragson had Zane Smith as their picks, albeit they had different reasons. Burton picked Smith for his fishing skills, while Gragson thought his fellow driver was fun to be around.
As for Zane Smith, he went for Martin Truex Jr. instead. He believes the retiring Joe Gibbs Racing driver is good at fishing and hunting.
Lastly, Carson Hocevar had an interesting take on the question. He picked Ross Chastain as the ideal driver to be stuck on an island with because the No. 1 Trackhouse Racing driver is shorter and older than him.
“I guarantee I’m not anybody else’s option so maybe Ross… someone shorter. You [got to] take someone older. I’m gonna go with Ross,” Carson Hocevar said.
The NASCAR Cup Series drivers are heading to Martinsville Speedway for the penultimate race of the season. As of this writing, Joey Logano and Tyler Reddick are locked in the Championship 4.
NASCAR drivers shared their go-to meals before heading out on the track
Earlier this year at Talladega Superspeedway, Chat Us Up was curious to know what the favorite pre-race meals of the NASCAR Cup Series drivers were.
While most drivers like Kyle Larson picked chicken and rice, Joey Logano went for a piece of salmon and broccoli. Considering drivers run a race for about three hours in a car, Logano said drivers should play it safe when having pre-race meals.
“I usually eat a piece of salmon, with some broccoli… maybe some chicken instead of the salmon… just kind of depends on the day. You gotta go safe. Can’t get too crazy," Logano said.
Other drivers like Danny Hamlin, Harrison Burton, and Chase Briscoe chose pasta as carbs provide them energy for the race.
