"That was really cool but super uncomfortable" - Alex Bowman, Bubba Wallace among other NASCAR drivers reveal their favorite fire suits
Several NASCAR Cup Series drivers opened up about their favorite fire suits they wore during their racing career. Drivers such as Alex Bowman, and Bubba Wallace, among many others, took a trip down memory lane and brought out the ones they loved wearing over the years.
A racing suit or fire suit (it's called such because of its fire retardant ability) is an overall that drivers wear during the race. Besides drivers, crew members, track safety workers, and marshals also wear this overall during race weekends.
Speaking to a popular social media channel, @chat.us.up on Instagram, Bowman said:
"Ah, we did a Tim Richmond throwback. That was really cool. Unfortunately got tucked into a wig and a moustache, and with some sunglasses with it too that I was super uncomfortable like I'm not that type of guy [who] got told I had to do it, and I love the Tim Richmond throwback aspect, but there was a lot going on there.
Prior to Bowman, Wallace also added his version. He said:
"I think the Grimace one was pretty fire this year at Iowa."
Besides Bowman and Wallace, multiple drivers shared their takes as well. Erik Jones stated that he enjoyed wearing the GameStop suit which looked like a Tuxedo.
Daniel Suarez revealed that he loved wearing the white Championship suit a few years back in Miami. Chase Briscoe picked a Darlington throwback Flame Mahindra suit.
Apart from the aforementioned drivers, Todd Gilliland, Austin Dillon, and Harrison Burton appeared in the short interview and revealed their favorites as well.
NASCAR all set for season finale at Phoenix
Following the final round of eight race of the Xfinity 500 at Martinsville Speedway in Martinsville last Sunday, NASCAR is all set for the final outing at Phoenix this weekend. The premier stock car racing has reached the business end of the 2024 Cup Series and it's just a matter of time before a champion is named.
The race at Martinsville saw Ryan Blaney and William Byron become the final two drivers to go through to the Championship 4 after Joey Logano and Tyler Reddick had already qualified for the final round. While Blaney won the race ahead of Hendrick Motorsports drivers Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson, Byron qualified after Christopher Bell breached a NASCAR rule.
Bell rode the wall at the final turn of the 500 Lap race, which NASCAR deemed illegal. Ross Chastain tried out a similar move in 2022 where he rode the wall and qualified for the Championship 4 ahead of Denny Hamlin. Following this, NASCAR banned the move, citing safety concerns.
In the final race, Team Penske driver Joey Logano will aim for his third Cup Series title, whereas his teammate Ryan Blaney will look for his second. Tyler Reddick and William Byron will vie for their first-ever Cup Series championship.
