"The heart of this sport": Joey Logano lauds NASCAR's Hurricane Helene efforts in awards night address
Joey Logano recently shared his thoughts in front of the entire NASCAR community during the Awards night in Charlotte. He won the biggest prize in the sport earlier this month in Phoenix, topping off his season with four wins and his third Cup championship.
During his address, Logano thanked those who have supported him throughout the journey. But importantly, he emphasized what he feels the most proud of being a central figure in NASCAR.
Logano mentioned that one gets 'a lot of opportunities' in life and that it's about making the most of those opportunities. Having said that, he spoke about the opportunities that God gives us as he said:
"If you take the opportunity that God's given us to talk to people, to inspire others to live a life of generosity, that's when these scenarios of 'just driving in circles' aren't just driving in circles anymore. That to me is something I'm most proud of in this industry and being part of that. I'm proud of winning. I'm proud to be part of this team but what I'm probably most proud of is the heart of this sport," Logano said, hinting at NASCAR's efforts in providing relief to Hurricane Helene victims.
Logano added that standing at that podium, he remembered his childhood when he would get a go-kart for Christmas. And now all these years later, he is now a 3x NASCAR Cup champion, something Joey Logano deemed 'truly incredible.'
Roger Penske defends Joey Logano following his third NASCAR championship
A big talking point around NASCAR's playoff system emerged following Joey Logano winning the Cup title in 2024. Many argued that the system was unfair because Logano wasn't a true championship contender for most of the regular season.
In fact, three of his four wins came in the playoffs at Atlanta, Las Vegas, and the all-important one at Phoenix.
However, his boss, Roger Penske, whose drivers have now won the last three Cup titles, defended Logano.
“I guess if someone said you win three in a row, they're going to change something, or Joey, remember, Logano, including the All-Star Race, had a tremendous season, and we won 42% of the races, the team did, including after the All-Star race to the end of the season, so people can say what they want about the system," Penske said.
The Team Penske boss further claimed that the playoff system is one that everyone signed up for at the beginning of the season. Penske said they'll let NASCAR decide if the format needs some changes, further defending the third Cup championship of Joey Logano.
