Who won the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series Rookie of the Year title?

Spire Motorsports driver Carson Hocevar has been named the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series Sunoco Rookie of the Year with the conclusion of the championship race at Phoenix Raceway on Sunday (November 10). Hocevar had an outstanding first season at the highest echelon of stock car racing, beating his teammate Zane Smith, Josh Berry, and Kaz Grala for the season's best rookie.

The 21-year-old Michigan native became the first Chevrolet driver to win Rookie of the Year since Daniel Hemric won it in 2019. He is also the only third driver in NASCAR history from Michigan to win the Rookie of the Year title, joining Johnny Benson (1996) and fellow competitor Erik Jones (2017).

Hocevar’s Rookie of the Year title was secured by his impressive performances throughout the season. Driving the #77 Chevrolet for Spire Motorsports, he finished the year with one top-five and six top-10 finishes. His career-best finish of third in the Cup Series came at Watkins Glen International in September and finished the season in 21st place in the final championship standings.

On winning the Rookie of the Year honor, Hocevar said in a Spire Motorsports statement:

“Being named Sunoco Rookie of the Year is special. I got beat out for Rookie of the Year in the CRAFTSMAN Truck series, and I didn’t run in the Xfinity Series full time, so to win the award in the NASCAR Cup Series is a huge accomplishment for our whole team.”

Carson Hocevar had an impressive outing in the Truck Series in 2023, where he earned a Championship 4 berth and finished third in the season-ending championship point standings.

After seeing his progress at NASCAR’s third-tier series, Spire Motorsports hired him at such a young age. He has a lot of potential and talent to become one of the most competitive divers in the sport.
