"You're gonna show how weak I am?" - NASCAR drivers including Joey Logano, AJ Allmendinger take on grip strength challenge
NASCAR stars including the likes of Joey Logano, William Byron and AJ Allmendinger took part in a fun grip strength challenge. Logano emerged victorious with the highest points.
Reigning NASCAR Cup Series champion Logano has been thoroughly enjoying his post-season. Earlier this year, the 34-year-old clinched his third Cup title, finishing ahead of Team Penske teammate Ryan Blaney and bringing home the trophy to Penske for the third consecutive year.
As he celebrates his title-winning post-season, Logano recently took part in a "grip strength challenge" organized by BR Racing. Drivers that took part in the fun challenge included the 2023 champion Ryan Blaney, AJ Allmendinger, William Byron, and Tyler Reddick among others.
Prior to attempting the challenge, AJ Allmendinger dropped a quirky remark to the hosts, saying:
"So you're gonna show how weak I am?"
William Byron, meanwhile, wondered if he could use both his hands on the tool. However, the HMS driver was denied his request, and ended up registering the lowest score. Grant Enfinger made it look effortless as he registered the second highest score at 128.4 lbs.
However, it was the reigning champion Joey Logano who claimed yet another victory in 2024. Securing a score of 132.8 lbs from his right hand, Logano registered the highest score in the grip strength challenge. The 34-year-old also gave the tool a go with his left hand, but could not score more than 116 lbs. That prompted him in saying:
"I got nothing in my left hand."
Joey Logano voices his opinion on NASCAR's playoff system
Joey Logano had appeared in an interview with New York Times before the start of the 2024 NASCAR season, one which wasn't published until the end of the campaign. In the interview, the Team Penske driver reflected on the sport's playoff format, saying:
"Some fans who have watched our sport for a very long time don’t like our playoff system. And I disagree with that. Our playoff system is spectacular."
Logano compared NASCAR’s playoffs to other sports, explaining:
"If you look at any playoff system, across any sport, the same thing can happen: They can have an amazing regular season and get knocked out in the first game or the first round. But they had that regular season that was great and can help seed them in a favorable position.
"Our playoffs does that," he asserted. "Can you get hot the last five races and go from a guy who barely made the playoffs to winning the championship? Absolutely."
Joey Logano will begin his title defence on February 16, 2025 at the Daytona International Speedway.
