What are Austin Dillon's best tracks? A look at RCR driver's strongest NASCAR venues
Austin Dillon competes in the NASCAR Cup Series for his grandfather's team Richard Childress Racing (RCR), driving the No. 3 Chevrolet Camaro. He has five wins to his name in 388 Cup races over 14 years. His most recent win was at Richmond Raceway in August this year.
Richmond Raceway has proven to be one of the best tracks for Dillon. He has an average finish of 13.3 across his last eight races at the track. However, his one win on the 0.75-mile (1.21 km) short track was controversial, after he spun out Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin during the final laps of the 2024 Cook Out 400. He also lost his spot in the playoffs after NASCAR penalized Dillion and RCR for his actions.
Two other tracks where Dillion has performed well are Talladega's tri-oval superspeedway and the 1.500 mile (2.414 km) tri-oval intermediate speedway in Kansas. He has one top-5 and three top-10 finishes at Talladega and three top-10 finishes at Kansas.
Austin Dillon also has two wins at Daytona International Speedway (2018, 2022) and one win at Texas Motor Speedway (2020). However, his average finish in his last 8 races at Daytona International Speedway, in Florida is 21.4. His average finish at Atlanta Motor Speedway is also 21.4 in his previous 8 races.
"I thought they'd turn right under me" - Austin Dillon on Kyle Larson's spin at Homestead
Austin Dillon had a brief run-in with Kyle Larson, who finished in 13th place, during the last playoff race at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Larson tried to pass Dillon aggressively while chasing leader Ryan Blaney and spun out with 13 laps remaining. In a conversation with Fox Sports' Bob Pockrass, Dillon talked about the caution and pointed out that he did not see Larson coming.
"I was just holding my line against the wall. That was the one place I could just stay. I thought they'd turn right under me. I didn't even know the #5 was coming truthfully. But in the end, I was just against the wall and I think he got in hot and caught my left front. I mean, I didn't do anything but stay against the wall," Austin Dillon stated.
Dillon, who has one win and four top-10s this year, finished 25th at Homestead.
The 34-year-old is currently 28th in the NASCAR Cup Series with 496 points this season. He will next race at the XFINITY 500 in Martinsville this Sunday. His best finish at the Martinsville Speedway is third in the 2022 spring race.
