“You’ve got to be kidding me”: When Joey Logano disclosed his iPhone’s ‘Ocean’ moment that left him in disbelief
For the third time in his career, Joey Logano claimed the NASCAR Cup Series championship this season. It marked the Connecticut native's third Cup title in the last seven years.
Off the racetrack, the champion driver is a family man. The 34-year-old is married to his wife, Brittany, and has been since 2014. The couple has three children, including two sons, Hudson and Jameson, and a daughter, Emilia.
On the heels of winning his first championship in 2018, Logano sat down with motorsports insider Jeff Gluck for a light-hearted interview. The driver of the #22 Team Penske Ford was thrown non race-related questions, such as if he had an iPhone or an Android. Logano said he's an iPhone person and always has been, but he isn't attached to any special features it has. Instead, he just wants a phone that can do basic things like texting, calling, and social media. However, there's one iPhone feature Logano was thankful for the week of the interview in February 2019.
"That’s all I want. I don’t need anything more fancy. Like all these new phones come out and…eh. But the waterproof piece? Big deal. I just tested it this week, by the way," Joey Logano said.
Logano then recounted a story about dropping his phone in the ocean while on the beach with his wife and young son. Fortunately, the Team Penske driver was able to get it back, surprisingly in great condition after being dropped in knee-deep water.
"Me and Brittany were with Hudson at the beach, and he’s loving it," Joey Logano said. "So I have my phone in the back pocket of my swim trucks and apparently my phone falls out of my pocket when we’re walking through the ocean. Five, six minutes go by, we’re back up by the pool area and I can’t find my phone. I’ve got Brittany’s phone, I keep calling it and calling it. Boom, somebody answers it. And I’m like, 'Hey, I’m trying to figure out what’s going on, I lost my phone.' They’re like, 'Yeah, we just found it in the ocean.' I’m like, 'In the ocean?'"
They said, 'Yeah, we were walking looking for sand dollars and it was knee deep.' And it’s like, 'You’ve got to be kidding me. It’s working!' So I run back down there, I meet them, I’m like, 'Thank you so much, that’s amazing.' And the speakers were kind of drowning out, but eventually, it dried out, and it’s working fine. I’ve got it right here, and it works. Isn’t that amazing?"
Joey Logano joined elite NASCAR company with third NASCAR title
Joey Logano held off Team Penske teammate Ryan Blaney to claim his third career NASCAR Cup Series championship in 2024. He became the 10th driver in the sport's history to win at least three titles.
Logano joins Tony Stewart, Darrell Waltrip, Cale Yarborough, David Pearson, and Lee Petty as NASCAR's three-time champions. The 34-year-old is one championship shy of Jeff Gordon's four titles and four away from Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, and Jimmie Johnson, who all have seven.
Logano wrapped up his 12th full-time season behind the wheel of the #22 Team Penske Ford. Of his 34 career victories, Logano has won all but two of them driving for car owner Roger Penske.
