3 cut candidates on Ravens roster ahead of NFL training camp

The Ravens, just like other teams, are into their training camp and have high hopes for what they can aim for in 2024. They were the AFC top seed and the best team in the NFL for the regular season in 2023. In Lamar Jackson, they have the reigning league MVP. They had a smashmouth style of defense to complement it all.

And now they have added Derrick Henry to the mix. They have legitimate Super Bowl aspirations. To do so, they will need to have the best roster that can compete in a variety of situations. With a limited number of spots available, there could be players who could be cut based on how they do, or fail to do, in training camp. Here are some players that should be looking over their shoulders.

3 cut candidates on Ravens roster ahead of NFL training camp

Candidate 1 - Tylan Wallace: WR

Let us know if you feel you have heard this story before as a Ravens fan. A great dual-threat quarterback with an elite tight end and solid running back fears being let down by the lack of receiving options. Baltimore has tried for many years to add a genuine perimeter threat to complement their rushing and short passing game. Last year, they went with Odell Beckham Jr. to give them that option.

But prior to that, Tylan Wallace was supposed to be the guy. He joined the team in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He has since bounced around on special teams and battled multiple injuries. He did score a winning touchdown against the Los Angeles Rams last season but that was his first career score in three seasons.

Now entering his fourth year, he is a prime candidate to lose his job. Deonte Harty, who can play as a returner like Wallace, is most likely to replace him.

Candidate 2 - Ronnie Stanley: OT

Ronnie Stanley made the Pro Bowl in 2019 and looked set for bigger things. The Ravens certainly thought so as they gave him a five-year, $98.75 million contract. Unfortunately, for both parties, it has been downhill ever since. He battled injuries in 2020 and 2021 and returned in 2022 as a shell of his former self.

He has not been to the Pro Bowl since as his pass protection percentage over the last two seasons has dropped below 85%. He also had six false start penalties last year, showing how people were targeting him and how he was not confident of standing his ground as he used to. Unless he has an exceptional training camp, he is expected to be on the chopping block.

Candidate 3 - Damarion Williams: CB

The Ravens really wanted to address their secondary strength in the 2024 NFL Draft and did so with the additions of Nate Wiggins and T.J. Tampa. That likely means that either Damarion Williams or Jalyn Amour-Davis might get cut as training camp progresses.

Given that Williams is older, he is the more likely candidate. He has also not featured regularly and was only seen in a single game last season. The training camp gives him an opportunity to prove this prediction wrong but the die may already have been cast when Baltimore decided to add the rookie defensive backs to their fold.
