3 needs Buffalo Bills must address ahead of 2023 NFL Trade Deadline
The Buffalo Bills have been among the most consistently successful NFL teams in recent years. They are one of only two teams, along with the Kansas City Chiefs, to win playoff games in the past three seasons. This heavily contributed to why they were among the favorites to compete for a Super Bowl ring ahead of the 2023 NFL season.
Through their first seven games, the Bills haven't quite lived up to their massive expectations, posting just a 4-3 record so far. Their relatively disappointing start could lead them to be active at the 2023 NFL trade deadline, which is scheduled for October 31.
This may be their last opportunity to fill some of the holes on their roster and get back into championship contention. They would be wise to take advantage of it and explore the available options.
Buffalo Bills' needs at the 2023 NFL Trade Deadline
The Buffalo Bills could use the most help this year on defense, as they have been plagued by injuries to some of their most important players. Here are three specific positions that they should target as the 2023 NFL trade deadline quickly approaches.
#3 - Cornerback
Tre'Davious White received devastating news when he recently suffered a season-ending injury. He has served as the top cornerback for the Bills over the past seven years, so losing him changes the entire dynamic of their defensive secondary.
To match up with some of the high-powered offenses in the AFC, the Bills should consider adding a cornerback at the deadline to help replace White, especially with Kaiir Elam severely struggling. Donte Jackson and Jaylon Johnson are two potential options rumored to be available.
#2 - Defensive Tackle
The Buffalo Bills have struggled to slow down opposing rushing attacks at times over the past few seasons, so improving the interior of their defensive line could help them to become a better overall defense. The need for an upgrade to their defensive tackles is even greater, with DaQuan Jones currently out with an injury.
D.J. Jones is expected to be one of the top players available this season. Bilal Nichols is rumored to be another potential option who could help the Bills improve their interior defensive linemen.
#1 - Linebacker
Matt Milano has been the centerpiece of the Bills' defense, making plays all over the football field as their dynamic middle linebacker. He has contributed in many defensive categories, but Buffalo will have to go forward without him after he recently suffered a season-ending injury.
Milano will be extremely difficult to truly replace due to the many various contributions he provides to their defense. Still, several legitimate options are rumored to be available at the 2023 NFL trade deadline. Jordan Hicks and Josey Jewell are two of the top names that the Buffalo Bills should consider making a move for.
