3 reasons why Philadelphia Eagles won’t be back at Super Bowl in 2024

The Philadelphia Eagles fell to the Kansas City Chiefs last night in Super Bowl LVII by a close score of 38-35.

They had one of the best seasons in franchise history as they won 14 regular-season games and made it to their second Super Bowl appearance in the past five seasons.

While they're one of the best teams in the NFL and in perhaps the NFC, there's a big chance that they won't make it back to the Super Bowl next season.

Here are three reasons why the Eagles may not make it back to the Super Bowl next season:

#1 - OC change and a potential DC change

It's almost a guarantee that the Super Bowl winning teams will lose a coordinator, and the Eagles may lose both their offensive and defensive coordinators this offseason.

The Colts have targeted hiring offensive coordinator Shane Steichen to become their next head coach.

The Indianapolis Colts have targeted Eagles’ offensive coordinator Shane Steichen to be their next head coach after informing other remaining candidates this morning that they are moving in a different direction, sources tell ESPN. https://t.co/VgUa5YFXfa

Defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon has emerged as a top candidate for the Eagles head coaching job.

The #Eagles now could lose both coordinators:
-- Defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon is a key candidate for the #AZCardinals and will interview Monday.
-- Offensive coordinator Shane Steichen is the leader to be the #Colts head coach as they eliminate candidates today.

There's a very high chance that the Eagles will lose both, which will be two very big losses for the team.

#2 - Hurts' contract leaves less money for other areas

Fourth-year quarterback Jalen Hurts will be entering the final year of his rookie contract with the team. After the past two seasons he's had, including an MVP-level campaign this year, Hurts is expected to break the bank with a $50 million-a-year-plus contract with the team.

The Eagles are currently under the cap and need to make space. It will be hard to do so with Hurts' contract that looms around the corner. They have many key free agents such as Jason Kelce (who may retire), Javon Hargrave, Brandon Graham, Isaac Seumalo, James Bradberry, Miles Sanders, Fletcher Cox and C.J. Gardner-Johnson.

#3 - Rivals figuring the Philadelphia Eagles out

While the Eagles made it to the Super Bowl and represented the NFC this year, they will have a big target on their back for next season. They dominated most of last season before losing two games at the end of the year when Jalen Hurts was inactive due to an injury.

As long as teams can contain Hurts and limit his dual-threat ability, they'll have a better chance at beating the Eagles. If teams limit the run game like they did last night with Eagles starting back Miles Sanders, that will also limit the Eagles' time in possession as Hurts led them in rushing yards last night.

The NFC East was arguably the best division in all of football last year and hasn't had a divisonal repeat winner in over 20 years.
