3 reasons why the San Francisco 49ers can win the Super Bowl in the 2022 NFL season
The San Francisco 49ers sit 4-4 after nine weeks of the 2022 NFL season, but is it possible for them to make a Super Bowl run this campaign? So far this year they’ve beaten the Los Angeles Rams twice, the Seattle Seahawks and Carolina Panthers. They have, however, lost to the Chicago Bears, Denver Broncos, Atlanta Falcons and Kansas City Chiefs.
When the 49ers landed Christian McCaffrey, it changed the perception of the franchise's trajectory. With him on board, many believe San Francisco have what it takes to win it all.
Here are three reasons why the 49ers can win the Super Bowl in the 2022 campaign:
#1 - Jimmy Garoppolo's composure under center
Despite being benched for Trey Lance to begin the year, Jimmy Garoppolo has reasserted himself as the starter. This happened mainly due to Lance's season-ending injury in Week 2, however, the youngster had been struggling on the field.
Garoppolo is a polarizing figure in the NFL, as many believe he holds the team back, but you can’t deny he’s an excellent game manager. With the Niners, he led the team to the Super Bowl in the 2019 season, as well as the NFC Championship in the 2021 campaign.
Garoppolo brings a composed and meticulous approach to quarterbacking and though not spectacular, he is very dependable. With him under center, San Francisco can methodically navigate their way through the regular season and through the playoffs.
#2 - The Christian McCaffrey trade upgraded the 49ers' offense
Christian McCaffrey is a huge reason why the franchise can win the Super Bowl at the end of the 2022 season. San Francisco acquired him in a blockbuster trade with the Carolina Panthers to bolster an already star studded offense. With McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, George Kittle and Brandon Aiyuk, the Niners now have a crazy versatile offense.
They can hurt you on the ground, through the air and you never quite know who is going to run the ball, pass it or receive it. This was made apparent in Week 8 when McCaffrey recorded a rushing, receiving and passing touchdown against the Los Angeles Rams. Put simply, CMC is a game changer. Adding him to this offense, guided by offensive guru Kyle Shanahan, means the Niners could go all the way and win Super Bowl LVII.
#3 - The 49ers' defense is among the best in the NFL
San Francisco boasts one of the best defenses in the NFL. Following their bye week in Week 9, they will welcome DL Arik Armstead and LB Dre Greenlaw back from injury. They have one of the most stacked defenses in the NFL, allowing just 86.6 rushing yards per game, as well as ranking sixth in the league for sacks with 26.0 despite already having their bye.
The defense is more than capable of reaching the Super Bowl, having many of the same pieces that brought the franchise there in the 2019 season. Many of them have the experience of playing in big games, which will be crucial in the months to come.
