5 biggest weaknesses Bills have to address heading into 2024 training camp
The Buffalo Bills suffered a similar fate last year as in past seasons, ultimately falling short of their Super Bowl aspirations. Despite making it to the NFL Playoffs in each of the past five seasons, they have only reached the Conference Championship game once.
The Bills were eliminated in the Divisional Round for the third straight season. The Kansas City Chiefs defeated them in the postseason for the third time in four years.
They hope to improve their performance in the 2024 NFL season, but they will have to overcome some new challenges this year. Here are their five biggest weaknesses heading into training camp:
Bills' weaknesses entering 2024 NFL training camp
#5: Cornerbacks
While Tre'Davious White has only appeared in 10 games across the past two seasons, he is still a two-time All-Pro. He departed Buffalo during the offseason, which may force their other cornerbacks to step into a larger role.
This could be even more of an issue considering they lost two starting safeties, Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde, during the offseason as well.
#4: Red Zone Rushing
While Josh Allen recorded 15 rushing touchdowns last year, the Bills' running backs rushed for just two touchdowns, both from James Cook, who started all 17 games.
The Bills need to find effective ways to utilize their running backs, especially in the red zone, which could take some of the pressure off of Josh Allen.
#3: Pass Rush
One of the Bills' strengths last season was pressuring opposing quarterbacks, despite not having an elite pass rusher. They recorded the fourth-most team sacks, but Leonard Floyd led their defense with 10.5 sacks.
Floyd departed during the offseason, so other players will need to step up if they want to keep this a staple of their defensive scheme.
#2: Safeties
One of the signatures of Buffalo in recent years has been having arguably the best pair of safeties in the entire world with Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde.
Neither of them are currently with the team entering the 2024 training camp, leaving a massive hole at the back of their defense. Taylor Rapp and Mike Edwards are currently projected to be their starters and they will have big shoes to fill.
#1: Wide Receivers
The Bills made the shocking decision to part ways with Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis during the 2024 NFL offseason. While they brought in Curtis Samuel and drafted Keon Coleman, they currently lack an established number-one option.
This is likely the biggest weakness on their roster ahead of the new season, especially considering it has been one of their strengths in their recent string of success.
