5 key takeaways from Giants-Eagles Week 7 clash
In Saquon Barkley's homecoming, the Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Giants played each other in Week 7 in an important NFC East game for both teams. With the Washington Commanders firmly in the division lead, it was a great opportunity for both teams to remain in the fight.
But the game was easily won by the Eagles, who allowed just three points in a drive right before halftime. More importantly, Philadelphia's offense clicked a new gear, and there was massive improvement regarding their Week 6 performance against the Cleveland Browns.
Here are five takeaways from this game:
5 takeaways from the Eagles win over the Giants on Sunday
#1 - Saquon Barkley was the star of the show.
In the running back's first game against his old team, there was no biggest star on the field. Barkley broke three long runs and finished the day with 176 rushing yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. He has been doing an excellent job since signing with Philadelphia, and in this game, his dominance was evident.
#2 - Jalen Hurts is looking more sharp over the past two weeks
The quarterback has not committed any turnovers in the past two games, and against the Giants, he completed 10 out of 14 attempts for 114 yards and a touchdown, plus two rushing touchdowns. He's playing better after the bye week and has cleaned his game.
#3 - A fantastic day for the Eagles defense
One of the biggest stories for Philadelphia's defense was its lack of pass rush in the first weeks, but over the past two games, they have had 5 sacks against the Cleveland Browns and 8 against the New York Giants. It was a much better display of a group that's been maligned to start the year. Even Bryce Huff contributed with a sack.
It's important to note, however, that the Giants were missing Andrew Thomas, their star left tackle who's out for the year.
#4 - Another bad Daniel Jones performance
With just 14 completed passes out of 21 attempts for 99 yards, once again the Giants quarterback failed to help his team. Missing Thomas certainly didn't help as he was pressured for most of the day, however, 4.7 yards per attempt is far from a respectable number. Drew Lock took over midway through the fourth quarter.
#5 - The NFC East race is well and truly alive
With the Eagles winning and moving to 4-2 on the season, they're still just behind the Washington Commanders, who demolished the Carolina Panthers 40-7 and moved to 5-2. Their first game will be on November 14.
