5 NFL teams who might pick a QB in first round of 2023 NFL Draft
The 2023 NFL draft is a little over two months away as the first-round begins on April 27th, 2023.
Free agency will begin on March 15th and teams will begin to assemble their rosters for next season. There are many QB-needy teams out there that will look to upgrade at the position and get the guy for their future.
Some teams will sign free-agent quarterbacks that will include Lamar Jackson, Derek Carr, Geno Smith, Daniel Jones, Jimmy Garoppollo, and others. Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is also currently available via trade.
Once free agency dies down towards April, teams will turn to the NFL draft to select some guys early on in the draft. Many first-round talents in this year's draft include Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, Will Levis, Anthony Richardson, Hendon Hooker, and others.
Here are five teams who could use their first-round picks on quarterbacks.
#1 Chicago Bears
This might come as a surprise to some, but you can't rule out the Chicago Bears selecting a quarterback at number one. They could decide to move on from Justin Fields after a 6-21 career record in two seasons.
While the Bears are committed to Fields, reporter Jason La Canfora reported this morning that multiple NFL GMs think the Bears will deal Fields, which would force them to draft a quarterback at number one.
The team could potentially target the clear number one and number two quarterbacks of this draft class that includes Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud.
#2 Houston Texans
It's no secret that the Houston Texans will use their number-two overall pick on a quarterback. The Davis Mills experiment didn't work out as he has a 5-22-1 record after two seasons at quarterback.
He replaced Deshaun Watson when they traded him to the Browns, but it seems as if he isn't the answer to be their franchise QB. Mills was benched towards the end of last season, and there are reports surfacing saying that the Texans will use their second-overall pick to draft a QB.
The team could possibly target the two best prospects, Bryce Young, and C.J. Stroud. They will likely select whoever is available at number two in the NFL Draft.
#3 Indianapolis Colts
The Indianapolis Colts are another team almost guaranteed to select a QB in the first round. They've spent the last three seasons using veteran quarterbacks (Matt Ryan, Carson Wentz and Philip Rivers) as their starters and it hasn't paid off.
Owner Jim Irsay wants to select a young guy and has his eyes set on Bryce Young.
Could the team possibly trade up for Young, or will they settle with C.J. Stroud, Will Levis, or another quarterback in the NFL draft?
#4 Seattle Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks and Geno Smith are expected to land a contract extension. They are the least likely team on this list to draft a quarterback, but it isn't out of the realm. If the team and Smith can't agree to a long-term deal, they could shift their focus to drafting a quarterback as they hold the number-five overall pick in the NFL draft.
Multiple QBs will be taken by the time the Seahawks pick so they could target Will Levis, C.J. Stroud, or even Anthony Richardson.
#5 Las Vegas Raiders
The Las Vegas Raiders have officially moved on from quarterback Derek Carr. They are currently looking for their next franchise quarterback and it could come in the NFL draft.
The Raiders hold the number seven overall pick in the NFL draft and are in a position to get one of the top QBs. The names could start to come off the board sooner, and the team could be forced to trade up. They could target Anthony Richardson and Will Levis if they pick at number seven, but C.J. Stroud openly said that he wants to play for the Raiders.
Could the Raiders pull the trigger and trade up for Stroud?
