5 most overrated players in Chargers history ft. Mike Williams

The Los Angeles Chargers have a long history in the NFL. They started in Los Angeles, moved to San Diego and played there for a long time, but ultimately returned to Los Angeles.

With such a long history, the list of players certainly has some interesting names to it. The fanbase loved some of them more than they should, especially based on their actual production.

Here's a closer look at five of the most overrated players in the Los Angeles Chargers' history.

5 most overrated players in Los Angeles Chargers' history

#1. Mike Williams

The wide receiver moved teams in the offseason after seven years marred with injuries and a lot of promises that never turned out to be true. At his best, he was great to play alongside Keenan Allen, but Mike Williams only had two seasons with over 1,000 receiving yards and only one with double-digit touchdowns.

#2. Shawne Merriman

It might not be fair to call Merriman overrated because he did have elite production while he was healthy, but at the same time, he spent a lot of time living under his name without returning to his best days on the field.

#3. Corey Liuget

When a player who's a starter for your team over eight seasons has a career-high of 7.0 sacks, you have to wonder what happened for you to get used to such a low output. Liuget would've made it a great rotational player, but he spent a lot of time without really being a difference-maker.

#4. Antonio Cromartie

The cornerback had some excellent moments in the league during his career – but most of those moments didn't come in San Diego. Cromartie had an excellent career, but while he had 10 picks in 2007, the rest of his career with the team was inconsistent, which is why the Chargers had no problem letting him go to the New York Jets in 2010.

#5. Austin Ekeler

The running back had some good years, but he was never a superstar by any means – fantasy football created an impression of him that wasn't true. Austin Ekeler had problems with his pass protection and failed to be consistent or a true star, and his 2023 season was borderline awful after his physical decline.
