5 most overrated players in Eagles history ft. Miles Sanders

For a storied franchise like the Philadelphia Eagles, having overrated players is a somewhat common occurrence. With one of the most passionate fanbases in the country, and also a huge media appeal, Eagles players often get into the lights more easily and generate bigger hype around them.

However, some players who have been praised by the media certainly weren't going to get the same hype on other teams, only turning out to be overrated due to playing with the Eagles.

Here's a closer look at five of the most overrated players in Philadelphia's history.

5 most overrated players in Philadelphia Eagles history

#1. Miles Sanders

A player who was a complete product of the system around him was Sanders, who benefited from playing behind the best offensive line in the league for many years.

The running back struggled with many things, such as drops and pass protection, and other players proved to be more effective as soon as he left. When he moved to the Carolina Panthers, playing behind a worse offensive line, Sanders' production dropped massively.

#2. Alshon Jeffery

Jeffery did make some plays in the 2017 season, most notably in the NFC Championship Game against the Minnesota Vikings, but overall he wasn't the best wide receiver in the history of the team.

He struggled badly after that year – and the offense was good due to Doug Pederson's system – and did not sign with any team after leaving the Eagles in 2020.

#3. Bobby Hoying

Hoying played two great games for the Eagles but was awful once the team put more responsibility on his plate in 1998. While there was excitement for the quarterback's draft pick after a great college career, as soon as he was handed the keys, the Eagles knew it wouldn't work out.

His disastrous 1998 season, at least, gave Philadelphia the opportunity to draft Donovan McNabb in 1999.

#4. Bennie Logan

In 2016, as the franchise started to ride the excitement of Carson Wentz on the roster, Logan had a difficult decision to make following the end of his rookie contract. He decided against returning to Philadelphia and went to the Kansas City Chiefs, while the Eagles were able to trade for Timmy Jernigan and get a huge upgrade in the same position.

Logan, who offered nothing as a pass rusher, was out of the league by 2018.

#5. Jason Babin

Babin stands out on this list due to having 18 sacks in one season and getting released the very next year. That's because the famous Wide-9 defensive system employed by Philadelphia in 2011 was positive in sacking quarterbacks, but Babin struggled on the field in all the other things.

While the number was huge, he wasn't a great player.
