5 QBs with most rushing yards in a game feat. Justin Fields and Colin Kaepernick

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields is a proper dual-threat option on offense, and on Sunday against the Dolphins at Soldier Field, he ran all over Miami.

Such was Field's rushing total that he set an NFL record for the most rushing yards for a quarterback in a regular-season game. The quarterback's total of 178 rushing yards tops the NFL charts for most in a game, overtaking the 173 by Michael Vick back in 2022.

While the Bears would go on to lose to the Dolphins in a high-scoring contest, 35-32, it was Fields' running ability that stole the show. He was efficient passing it too, completing 17 of his 28 passes for 123 yards and three touchdowns. But it was his rushing total of 178 yards that stole the show.

This gives us an opportunity to think about quarterbacks with strong performances when it comes to rushing, over the years. So, here are the top five all-time rushing games by quarterbacks in the NFL.

# 5 - Lamar Jackson - 152 yards - 2019

Lamar Jackson had to be on the list, didn't he? His running ability, like Fields, is a serious weapon. Back in 2019, Jackson was running wild against the Browns.

Most rush yards in a game by a QB this season:
152 Lamar Jackson vs. Bengals
120 Lamar Jackson vs. Cardinals
116 Lamar Jackson vs. Seahawks
93 Kyler Murray vs. Bengals
86 Lamar Jackson vs. Texans
70 Lamar Jackson vs. Steelers

Jackson rushed for 152 yards on 19 attempts (eight yards per carry) and had a touchdown. With his total, Lamar comes in at number five.

# 4 - Michael Vick - 166 yards - 2006

Back when Vick was with the Falcons, he was a force to be reckoned with. This was evident in 2006 when he rushed for 166 yards on 12 carries. He got 13.8 yards per rush too, which isn't too bad.

Single-game rushing records for a quarterback (playoffs not included):

1. Michael Vick: 173 yards (2002)
2. Michael Vick: 166 yards (2006)
3. Lamar Jackson: 155 yards (today)

Before Fields and Jackson, Vick was the prototype running quarterback and more often than not, opposing defenses had no answer.

# 3 - Michael Vick - 173 yards - 2002

Vick appears on the list again. Such was his running ability that Vick was just as dangerous with his legs as he was with his arm.

Justin Fields has 166 rushing yards.

Michael Vick holds the NFL record for the most yards by a quarterback in a game, with 173 yards against the Vikings on December 1, 2002.

In 2002, against the Vikings, Vick rushed for 173 yards and two touchdowns on just 10 carries. He also went at 17.3 yards a rush too. Yikes!

#2 - Justin Fields - 178 yards - 2022

We all know Justin Fields' ability to use his legs in the Bears' offense, but against the Dolphins, he reeled off a 61-yard run for a touchdown as well. Have a day Justin!

#1 - Colin Kaepernick - 181 yards - 2013

While Justin Fields has the regular-season record, former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has the all-time record.

On this day in 2013, #49ers QB Colin Kaepernick runs for a playoff record 181 yards in dominating divisional round win over the #Packers 45-31.

His 181 yards in 2013 came in a divisional playoff game against Green Bay. He had 181 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. Kaepernick averaged 11.3 yards per carry as the 49ers defeated the Packers 45-31.

So while the Bears quarterback and his 178 yards were sensational against Miami, he fell three yards short of having the all-time record.
