5 teams with the fewest picks in the 2023 NFL Draft feat. star-studded DolphinsÂ
Several teams have compiled a number of 2023 NFL Draft picks this year. For example, the Las Vegas Raiders have an astounding 12 picks. They can draft a lot of players. Having a lot of draft picks usually comes from trading players away, which also means those other teams don't have very many.
With trades happening a lot more frequently these days, many teams have purged their drafts in favor of stars. Which teams have done that the most and as a result have fewer draft picks in 2023?
NFL teams with the fewest draft picks this year
5) Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers only have six draft picks this year. They've been fairly active in trades recently, acquiring Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold via trade. They also sent Christian McCaffrey to the San Francisco 49ers but also traded up from ninth overall to first overall.
In the end, they ended up with six draft picks this year and won't have a lot next year, either.
4) Minnesota Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings come in with five draft picks in the 2023 NFL Draft. They swapped a second-round pick for a fourth-round selection in the TJ Hockenson trade with the Detroit Lions and traded a fourth-, sixth- and seventh-round pick for various players like Stephen Weatherly and Ross Blacklock.
As a result, the NFC North champions have five draft picks to work with this season.
3) Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens come into 2023 with five picks to use. That's because they sent a second-round and fifth-round pick to the Chicago Bears (who now have 10 picks) for Roquan Smith, who they then made the highest-paid linebacker in the NFL.
They also did some pick-swapping, but the reason they only have five is because of the Smith trade.
2) Denver Broncos
After everything the Denver Broncos have given up, it's a miracle they still have five draft picks to play with. After sending a boatload of assets to the Seattle Seahawks for Russell Wilson, the Broncos had to turn around and trade for the coaching rights to Sean Payton.
As a result, the 4-13 Broncos only have five picks to make a real impact this year. Perhaps that's why they're shopping Jerry Jeudy and others.
1) Miami Dolphins
The team with the least number of picks this draft is the Miami Dolphins, who have just four selections to make this year. The biggest reason is that they lost their first-round pick for tampering in Tom Brady's free agency a few years ago.
However, they also made a few big trades recently to try and build a contender. Trading for Tyreek Hill cost them a few picks. The Jeff Wilson Jr. deal did, too. They also traded for Jalen Ramsey, which cost them a third-round pick.
As a result, the Dolphins figure to be the least active NFL team on draft night.
