8 NFL teams who won their maiden Super Bowl since Cowboys last won road playoff game
The Dallas Cowboys will begin their quest for a sixth Super Bowl ring when they take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs following the 2022 season. One of the biggest obstacles in this game for the Cowboys may be that they will have to go on the road to do it. They have historically struggled as a road team in the NFL playoffs.
While the Cowboys have failed to win a Super Bowl ring since the 1995 NFL season, their losing streak on the road began even further back. The last time the Cowboys won a playoff game on the road was against the San Francisco 49ers following the 1992 NFL season. It's officially been 30 years since the Cowboys earned a postseason victory away from home.
Perhaps even more staggering is that these eight NFL teams have won their first Super Bowl in franchise history during this 30-year drought for the Cowboys.
#1 - Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos made four Super Bowl appearances before finally winning the ring in their fifth. John Elway helped them win it for the 1997 and 1998 NFL seasons, while Peyton Manning brought in a third in 2015.
#2 - Los Angeles Rams
The 1999 Los Angeles Rams are one of the most incredible underdog stories in NFL history. Kurt Warner came out of nowhere to lead them to a Super Bowl-winning season during one of the best offensive campaigns of all time. They added a second ring in 2021.
#3 - Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens have only made two Super Bowl appearances in franchise history but won the ring in both of them. They occurred during the 2000 and 2012 NFL seasons behind a dominant defense captained by Ray Lewis.
#4 - New England Patriots
The 2001 NFL season marked the first of six Super Bowl rings for the legendary New England Patriots' two-decade dynasty. All six victories featured the iconic combination of head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady.
#5 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have also only appeared in two Super Bowls, winning both of them. Their first occurred in 2002 behind a dominant defense, while Tom Brady led them to their second in 2020.
#6 - New Orleans Saints
The New Orleans Saints have only appeared in one Super Bowl, but they made it count. Drew Brees helped them bring home the ring against Peyton Manning and the heavily-favored Indianapolis Colts.
#7 - Seattle Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks have made three Super Bowl appearances in franchise history, two of which were with Russell Wilson. He led them to victory in 2013 while the Legion of Boom defense shut down Peyton Manning's Denver Broncos.
#8 - Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles fell short of victory in each of their first two Super Bowl appearances before their magical run in 2017. Backup quarterback Nick Foles helped them win a ring against Tom Brady's dominant New England Patriots. It's also one of the greatest underdog stories in NFL history.
