"A consolation prize at best": NFL fans have their say as Lamar Jackson wins Pro Football MVP by PFWA
NFL fans reacted to Lamar Jackson once again taking a major individual award home, this time securing the 2024 NFL Most Valuable Player by the Professional Football Writers of America (PFWA).
This is the second consecutive time the Baltimore Ravens quarterback takes the award and third overall in his fruitful career.
Once the news was public, several people reacted to the former Louisville Cardinal getting another individual prize in the wake of his elimination to the Buffalo Bills in the divisional round of the 2024 NFL playoffs.
Some said it wasn't a remarkable achievement considering his playoff shortcomings while noting Jackson must be focused on the biggest award.
"Well deserved but a consolation prize at best," one fan said.
"He was clearly the best player in the league this year," another fan said.
"I doubt Lamar gives AF these MVPs at this point," another fan commented.
Others insisted that he must prove that he's valuable in the playoffs after several years of trying to at least play in the Super Bowl without success.
"As Ravens fan I could care less about pro bowls, rankings, MVP talk, just please get into the Superbowl next season," one fan emphatically said.
"Win in the playoffs or no one will gaf when his career ends," another fan said.
The AP MVP Award will be announced ahead of Super Bowl LIX, with Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen looking like the strongest candidates to win the coveted prize.
NFL analyst refuses to shut down Lamar Jackson, Ravens' championship window
The Baltimore Ravens were two points away from forcing overtime against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. Everything fell apart when Mark Andrews couldn't grab the pass to make the two-point conversion, sending the Ravens back home with empty hands.
While some think this season might have been his last chance to win the Vince Lombardi Trophy, Chris Broussard thinks the Ravens are still in Super Bowl contention.
"As long as you got Lamar, the window's open. And when you look at this team, the offensive line was good and could get better. I know Ronnie Stanley is a free agent... Obviously, you got the running back set. I think Derrick Henry will be fine next year. Receivers are fine, yeah, I'd like to add somebody, maybe through the draft, but another explosive receiver, defense, I think, is going to get better."
Lamar Jackson is still in the middle of his prime, meaning the Ravens must keep pushing until that Super Bowl comes.
