Adrian Martinez landing spots: 5 best NFL fits for UFL 2024 MVP feat. New England Patriots
Former Kansas State quarterback Adrian Martinez might not have found success in his first stint as an NFL quarterback, but he could be in line for a return to the biggest league in the world following the end of the UFL season.
Martinez was named the league MVP after a successful stint with the Birmingham Stallions, while also being the league's rushing leader due to his dual-threat ability. After the end of the season, we've listed a few teams that could use his services, even if it's just as a camp body.
5 NFL teams that could sign UFL MVP Adrian Martinez
1 - Houston Texans
Due to Martinez's skillset, the obvious idea is to consider teams where the starting quarterback resembles his play style. C.J. Stroud has dominated the league through the air, but he has also shown the mobility to run with the football when needed. Martinez could work with the second team during practices.
2 - Pittsburgh Steelers
Martinez could fit with the Steelers through the same logic. The team signed Russell Wilson and traded for Justin Fields, so a quarterback who can run with the football is imperative. While there would be no expectations of Martinez seeing the field, a camp body that resembles the offensive style is always a nice catch.
3 - New England Patriots
The Patriots often throw darts around the quarterback position — Jarrett Stidham and Danny Etling are good examples of this — and Martinez would be another one. Obviously, they're set for the future with Drake Maye on the roster, but keeping Martinez as a gadget player, which New England loves to do once in a while, wouldn't hurt anything.
4 - Philadelphia Eagles
Jalen Hurts' backup, Kenny Pickett, looks nothing like the starter, so for the Philadelphia Eagles, taking a flyer in a quarterback who would earn the minimum salary while keeping the offense ready in case Hurts goes down is important. Adrian Martinez could also net himself a practice squad spot.
5 - Indianapolis Colts
With Anthony Richardson as the starter, a backup quarterback who can run with the football is important for the aforementioned reasons. The Colts are already set at the position, but as with the other teams, a flyer in a player with an uncommon skill set and a cheap salary never hurts.
