Alec Pierce Waiver Wire Fantasy Outlook Week 6: Is Colts WR a good pickup?
Alec Pierce was a star name in Week 1. However, over the next month, he faded from the spotlight. Then, on Sunday, he once again had a great game. Managers are left asking whether Pierce is worth strong consideration on the waiver wire. Here's a look at the player and whether adding him is worth pursuing.
Should you add Colts WR Alec Pierce in Week 6 on the waiver wire?
Alec Pierce is the definition of boom or bust with the Indianapolis Colts. This year, he has earned at least 125 yards and a touchdown twice. However, he also has earned under 45 yards twice and under 10 yards once. As such, his results run the gamut. That said, he has proven to at least be a breakout player once per month.
Don't expect him to dominate every week, but if you need a flex player, Pierce might be as good as there is on the waiver wire in many leagues. Don't expect him to instantly become your top wide receiver for the foreseeable future, but as someone who can help fill out the bottom of the starting role or the top of the bench, Pierce is your guy.
Alec Pierce fantasy outlook for 2024 NFL season
Pierce has proven that whether it is Joe Flacco or Anthony Richardson, he can still be remarkably productive. However, most of his production has come with fewer receptions than what is ideal. Sure, Pierce has three weeks of about 10 points or better, but he has yet to catch more than five passes in a game.
This puts him at risk of having some weeks of great production and some weeks of failing to get on the board. If you want a player who you'll be waiting most of the game to see if his name gets called, this is your guy.
Is Alec Pierce a good waiver wire pickup in fantasy football?
As the league enters the bye section of the season, Alec Pierce could end up saving a manager's bacon. For those needing a wide receiver to slot in to cover a one-week absence, Pierce is as good of a solution as there might be. However, if a manager adds him after his Sunday surge expecting him to pull it off every week, they're setting themselves up for disappointment.
One plus side of Pierce is that he has proven to be quarterback-proof this season, totaling big numbers with both mobile starter Anthony Richardson and his pocket passing backup. That said, in the end, he will be a coin flip most weeks.
