"Almost looks like he doesn’t want to be there" - Anonymous NFL executive lists Aaron Rodgers as biggest issue plaguing Packers

Seeing quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers with a 3-3 record through the first six weeks of an NFL season is a bit of a head-scratcher. The veteran quarterback nearly stepped away from the NFL last season and then signed a contract extension to remain with the team.

However, his production on the field may not be exactly what the Packers anticipated when they re-signed him.

In a Washington Post article published this weekend, a few anonymous NFL executives stated their opinions on the Packers quarterback this season.

One said that the offense just isn't rolling like it has in the past and that the quarterback doesn't appear to be excited about playing the game, or even have a desire to do so. The executive also said that Rodgers is willing to give up on a play very easily when, in the past, he would have fought to make something happen.

“They can’t get anything going on offense, and it almost looks like he doesn’t want to be there. It’s like he’s almost too willing to give up on a play.”
Aaron Rodgers says he wants to simplify the offense.

When Matt LaFleur is asked about that, he says, “I don’t know what that means.”

Ok so that’s not great

Another NFL executive said that when a quarterback gets older as Rodgers is now, and gets re-signed, this is the type of performance that proceeds.

“It’s always tricky with quarterbacks like this. You almost always end up holding on to them a year or two too long. We did …. You’re dealing with a lot of ego and emotion."

Both he and Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady are going through similar situations this season. Both are struggling with their offenses and have .500 records.

Could this be the beginning of the end to an era that had Brady and Rodgers as the top quarterbacks in the league?

How much does QB Aaron Rodgers make?

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is one of the highest paid NFL players currently in the league. In March, he signed a three-year contract extension that will be worth $150 million in total. That extension then turned his $26 million this season to a whopping $42 million salary this season.

The last 20 seasons of the NFL have been defined by 5 quarterbacks, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, and Ben Roethlisberger. With Manning, Brees and Big Ben all retired, that leaves us with the Brady and A-Rod. theshadowleague.com/do-the-struggl…

Next season, the 38-year-old will make $59 million and in the 2024 NFL season, he will make $49 million. His overall earnings through the NFL will reach over $300 million after the competion of this current contract.

Aaron Rodgers will turn 41 years old during the third year of his contract. Whether he decides to retire then remains to be seen.
