Anthony Edwards NFL landing spots: 5 teams that should target NBA star after bold claim
It's not uncommon to see NFL players who also played basketball, but Anthony Edwards is looking to take this to a new level. The Minnesota Timberwolves superstar said in a recent interview with ESPN that, if he does win an NBA ring over the next few seasons, he'll change his sport and play football.
This would obviously be a massive change. No matter how good you are, changing sports is a very hard task - just ask Michael Jordan, who switched from basketball to baseball in the 90s. However, it's still possible to dream - and have fun - with it.
In the case of Anthony Edwards ever making it to the NFL, we've listed five teams who could think about signing him. For the record, based on his current shape and his skill set, for this article, we'll think of him as a wide receiver.
5 teams who could sign Anthony Edwards if he switches to the NFL
#1 - Minnesota Vikings
The first one is the most obvious. Playing for the Timberwolves, Anthony already has a huge connection to the state of Minnesota, especially with Justin Jefferson. If he does win a ring for the city of Minneapolis, changing sports and going to play with his friend seems to be the most natural option.
#2 - Atlanta Falcons
Another option that feels pretty natural is the Atlanta Falcons, since the basketball star was born in the city of Atlanta and also played for the Georgia Bulldogs during college. He could choose to go back home and team up with Bijan Robinson and Kyle Pitts as an offensive weapon.
One curiosity about the two teams above: Edwards played football for much of his childhood. The name of his school team? Atlanta Vikings.
#3 - Dallas Cowboys
At first, this might not make much sense, especially if you consider the fact that Minnesota's most recent playoff run was swiftly ended by Dallas. But if there's one owner in the NFL who's willing to take crazy risks, then Jerry Jones is the name. He would love the media attracted by Edwards' signing, even if the chances of becoming a star player are slim.
#4 - New England Patriots
The Patriots need all kinds of playmakers to help Drake Maye, and at the current rate of their offense, any kind of help would be appreciated. To play with Drake Maye in one of the teams with the biggest history in the league could make for a fairytale if it goes right.
#5 - Kansas City Chiefs
Andy Reid loves to get creative. During the 2024 offseason, he had Louis Rees-Zamiit as a tryout and he failed to make the 53-man roster, but Edwards could make the same try and even be a teammate for Patrick Mahomes. Imagine how fun this could become.
