"At the end of the day, I am human" - When Patrick Mahomes' wife Brittany sided with brother-in-law Jackson over hate comments
Patrick Mahomes and his family are no strangers to online hate and trolls. Ultimately, though, his wife Brittany and brother Jackson seem to bear the brunt of it. Both individuals enjoy a good amount of following on social media, making them influencers in their own right.
Brittany, 27, has made a name for herself as a fitness trainer and entrepreneur. This includes clothing collaborations and various other brands she endorses. During a 2020 interview with Vitality (previously Balance Athletica), Brittany opened up about her struggles with trolls and how the hate sometimes gets to her.
Her brother-in-law Jackson, however, has been an understanding ally throughout. According to Brittany, she and Jackson have bonded over the constant hate they receive.
"I will say that Patrick has been a huge help in this aspect and his brother Jackson deals with it on a whole other level too," Brittany said. "So just him and I being able to get close and bond for this thing like, you know, me and him talk about it everyday, like who cares what that person says. Like ignore it."
She continued:
"And I think the biggest lesson that I have had to learn is to not let random internet bullies who are hiding behind a freaking computer screen get to you. And as I go like, yes, I'm learning to deal with it, but at the end of the day, I am human and I do have feelings and I do see it and it does hurt."
Brittany also spoke about the stereotype of being with an NFL player, where people think a star athlete should not be with someone 'normal'. Although Brittany herself started out as a soccer player, she shifted her career to training and being a businesswoman.
Eventually, her following grew.
Do fans love to hate Patrick Mahomes' family?
Despite supporting Patrick Mahomes as the Kansas City Chiefs' star QB, fans aren't exactly kind to his wife or his brother. Sometimes even Randi Mahomes, their mother, has found herself on the receiving end of online trolls.
One reason could be the countless controversies that have plagued both Brittany and Jackson throughout the years. Many have labeled both of them as insensitive, sometimes even complaining about their lives on Twitter or Instagram.
A Brittany controversy that stands out is her spraying champagne onto people standing below her in the stands. She sprayed the beverage without looking down, and it landed on unsuspecting people.
Jackson, on his end, was called out for shooting a TikTok video on the late Sean Taylor's memorial. The video went live the same day his number was being retired by the Washington Commanders.
Irrespective of the hate, both Brittany and Jackson have continued to support Patrick Mahomes, making sure to attend as many events as they can.
