Baltimore Ravens: Will Odell Beckham Jr. and Zay Flowers become one of the NFL’s best receiver duos?
This offseason, the Baltimore Ravens added two talented wide receivers in Odell Beckham Jr. and Zay Flowers. Could they emerge as a top-notch wide receiver duo next season?
The two wideouts have totally different stories. While Beckham has eight NFL seasons and 96 career games under his belt, Flowers was recently drafted and obviously hasn't even played a preseason game yet.
Beckham entered the league back in 2014 when he was drafted by the New York Giants. The former LSU Tiger played five seasons with the Giants, making the Pro Bowl on three occasions.
After a two-and-a-half season tenure with the Cleveland Browns, Beckham won a Super Bowl ring with the Los Angeles Rams during the 2021-22 campaign. He tore his ACL in the Super Bowl and ended up missing all of last season.
Beckham then signed with the Ravens as a free agent this offseason, inking a one-year deal worth up to $18 million.
Flowers, meanwhile, is coming off a strong four-year collegiate career at Boston College, where he was chosen first-team All-ACC twice. Baltimore selected the Florida native with the 22nd overall pick in last month's NFL Draft.
Beckham has been a star in the past, but it's uncertain what type of career Flowers will have.
Odell Beckham Jr. and Zay Flowers could provide Lamar Jackson with two dangerous offensive weapons
It appeared that franchise quarterback Lamar Jackson was going to be suiting up for another team next season. However, the 2019 MVP ultimately agreed to a five-year, $260 million extension with the Ravens.
Jackson is known as a running quarterback, but the additions of Beckham and Flowers could surely help with his passing game. Beckham has reached the 1,000-receiving-yard mark five times, although he hasn't accomplished the feat since the 2019 campaign. Last season, Flowers caught 78 passes for 1,077 yards and 12 touchdowns.
There are several elite wide receiver duos around the NFL right now. Great examples include Ja'Marr Chase-Tee Higgins (Cincinnati Bengals), Tyreek Hill-Jaylen Waddle (Miami Dolphins), and A.J. Brown-DeVonta Smith (Philadelphia Eagles).
Can the Ravens' Odell Beckham Jr. and Zay Flowers join that group next season? Beckham, who has suffered two torn ACLs during his career, has to stay healthy and Flowers needs to have a Rookie of the Year-caliber year. We'll see what happens.
