BREAKING: Jets bring Nathaniel Hackett on board as Aaron Rodgers rumors continue to swirl

Nathaniel Hackett was fired by the Denver Broncos after just 15 games as their head coach, but is now back in the NFL as the offensive coordinator for the New York Jets.

The Jets had problems offensively this season and parted ways with Mike LaFleur. Hackett will reportedly be actively involved in the Jets' search for a new quarterback after a mess in the QB room this season.

Along with Hackett, former Titans’ O-line coach Keith Carter also join the New York Jets and will be the new O-line coach and run-game coordinator.

The #Jets are hiring former #Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett as their offensive coordinator, per sources.

Hackett previously called plays in Buffalo and Jacksonville, where he worked with Robert Saleh, and was widely revered during his tenure as Green Bay’s OC. A big hire. https://t.co/XfP2LtNuYz

The Jets are reportedly interested in acquiring Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers and hiring Hackett will likely aid their pursuit. Nathaniel Hackett was previously the OC for the Packers as well and has a great relationship with Rodgers.

Zach Wilson, meanwhile, has fallen out of favor with the Jets due to poor performances, while Mike White doesn't seem like the ideal quarterback to take the roster to the Super Bowl.

Hackett didn't perform well as the head coach for the Denver Broncos, but he has a reputation as a respected offensive mind in the league. This past season, Rodgers was linked to a move to Denver due to Hackett's presence.

If Aaron Rodgers does move to the Big Apple, he could elevate this team to the next level.

Here is @AaronRodgers12’s full answer — on Nov. 11, 2020 — about Nathaniel Hackett when asked (in a typically long-winded way 😉) about then-#Packers offensive coordinator and now the new head coach of the Denver @Broncos.

The Jets have a watertight defense, and with the appointment of Hackett, they have taken a big step in improving their offense.

Apart from Rodgers, the Jets will also look into Derek Carr and Jimmy Garoppolo, according to multiple reports.

The #Jets have big decisions to make at QB soon. Now, they know who will be running the offense: It's Nathaniel Hackett, who had the NFL's No. 2 offense with Blake Bortles at QB in 2017 with Jacksonville and was GB's OC when Aaron Rodgers won consecutive MVPs in 2020 and 2021. twitter.com/TomPelissero/s…

Jets news: Zach Wilson stands to benefit from Nathaniel Hackett

Even if the Jets go all-in on their Aaron Rodgers pursuit for next season, it will be a good thing for both the franchise and Zach Wilson.

The Jets drafted Wilson with the second overall pick, and giving up on him so swiftly will not quite be in the franchise's best interests.

"I hope that whoever the Jets go with at OC can come in and get the best out of Zach Wilson.. I think he's talented enough to have a long career in the league"

Wilson has always admired Rodgers and the Packers quarterback has mutual respect for Wilson. If Rodgers arrives in New York and plays for a couple of seasons, he will give them an opportunity to make a run at Super Bowl with a squad full of young players on team-friendly deals.

Moreover, it will give Wilson an opportunity to learn from his idol and then slot in as his replacement to become the Jets QB in the long haul.

The Packers are expected to trade away Aaron Rodgers for a couple of first-round picks, according to multiple reports, a price the Jets can afford in 2023.
