Cameron Brate landing spots: 3 destinations that make sense for Tom Brady's former teammate
Cameron Brate has spent his entire NFL career so far with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That no longer appears to be the case ahead of the 2023 NFL season.
The Buccaneers recently announced that they are releasing their veteran tight end during the 2023 free agency period, making him an unrestricted free agent. He will be able to sign with any team that offers him a new contract.
Brate profiles as a large framed tight end with reliable pass-catching abilities and excellent blocking skills. He's capable of stepping in right away for a team in need of a tight end and providing positive contributions.
Here are three teams that make sense as potential destinations for Cameron Brate during the 2023 NFL offseason.
#1 - Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers are one of the teams that need the most help at their tight end position.
They were a weak spot during the 2022 NFL season and took a further hit during the 2023 NFL offseason. Starter Robert Tonyan recently left the team during free agency, joining their rivals, the Chicago Bears. The Packers can replace one veteran with another by adding Cameron Brate.
#2 - Cincinnati Bengals
The Cincinnati Bengals lost their starting end during the 2023 NFL free agency period when Hayden Hurst signed a new contract with the Carolina Panthers.
This creates a massive hole in their depth chart. Brate is capable of being their starter, especially since their elite receiving core handles most of the passing targets. Brate can also be extremely useful in helping protect Joe Burrow, one of the most pressured quarterbacks in the entire NFL.
#3 - Miami Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins struggled to find much production out of their tight ends during the 2022 NFL season.
Their position became even weaker after starter Mike Gesicki signed with the New England Patriots in free agency. Brate fits with the Dolphins similarly to the Bengals, especially bringing his blocking talents to protect the injury-prone Tua Tagovailoa.
Cameron Brate's Madden rating
Madden ratings are determined in the popular video game by calculating a player's recent production, as well as their projections for the upcoming NFL season.
Cameron Brate earend a 71 rating in Madden 23, putting him just outside of the top 40 players in the position. He received the same rating as other mid-teir tight ends such as Chigoziem Okonkwo, Dan Arnold, and Tommy Tremble.
