Cincinnati mayor’s "Burrowhead" dig has big Ned Flanders energy

The Cincinnati Bengals are headed to the AFC championship game for the second year in a row. And it's another matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs on the road. The excitement around the city was clear as Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval addressed the game during Wednesday's city council meeting.

Pureval said that he will be flying to Kansas City this weekend for the game on Sunday. He said that he will attend the game at "Burrowhead Stadium," which is a jab at Arrowhead Stadium and the success that quarterback Joe Burrow has had while playing there.

“It is so galvanizing and energizing that our Cincinnati Bengals are again in the AFC championship," Pureval said. "Who Dey, baby! Who Dey! I will be going on Saturday morning. I will be arriving in Kansas City, so I will be at the game at ‘Burrowhead Stadium.’ See what I did there? No? No? Ok. I love that.

"And so I will be talking a lot of smack to Mayor Quinton Lucas of Kansas City, and hopefully we can bring home the 'W' and be on our way to the Super Bowl. I am very excited about the game.”

He asked those in the meeting how they felt about his new catchphrase, and it apparently didn't catch on.

Some fans felt that Aftab Pureval's comments were similar to those of Ned Flanders, a popular character on the long-running "The Simpsons" animated series.

While Mayor Aftab Pureval may have been quoted as saying "Burrowhead Stadium," he apparently isn't the only person saying that new catchphrase. The Bengals fan base is also quite adamant about referring to the Chiefs stadium that way, and it's being heard by their opponents.

"It’s getting everybody fired up," Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce said on the 'New Heights' podcast. We are the loudest stadium in the world, on record … 142 decibels. I don’t know, maybe we’re going to have to break it this week, because a lot of Cincinnati Bengals fans are calling it 'Burrowhead' instead of Arrowhead.

Whoever originally started the "Burrowhead" saying is still up for grabs at this point. But it's understandable as Burrow is 3-0 at Arrowhead Stadium in his young career. That success includes the AFC championship game last year. Can he make it a fourth straight win on the road against the Chiefs?
