Colts owner Jim Irsay delivers massive update on Roger Goodell’s future as NFL Commissioner

Roger Goodell is unlikely to be moving on from his commissioner's role any time soon, at least according to Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay. Irsay may have let slip that the commissioner's extension through 2027 is almost a done deal.

There were rumblings about a new contract and now it appears that it is in the final stages.

Daniel Kaplan tweeted:

"Colts owner Jim Irsay says Goodell's new contract through March of 2027 is all but done."

Kaplan is a reporter for the Athletic and has it on good authority that Irsay said Goodell's contract was finished. Most owners like the current commissioner, which is how he has been able to stay in power since 2006.

With a new deal through 2027, he is likely to remain in power for the foreseeable future.

The Josh Harris/Mitchell Rales group agreed to purchase the team from Dan Snyder for over $6 billion. The deal was agreed upon before another bidder came in with a $7 billion offer. That offer was ignored and Snyder opted to go with Harris and Rales shortly thereafter.

Still, there are always a lot of hoops to jump through when it comes to selling a team and it appears that Irsay believes the process has only just begun. These things take time, and this one may take quite a bit of time before it's all said and done.
