Cooper Kupp fantasy outlook, ADP and stats: Where should you draft Rams WR in 2024?
There might not be a more boom/bust player who has fantasy football players sweating more when they are on the clock than Cooper Kupp of the Los Angeles Rams. Not only is he safe to draft, but he should be one of the focal points of your roster construction.
Cooper Kupp fantasy outlook for 2024
Kupp, 31, isn’t a spring chicken anymore. He’s battled injuries these past two seasons, leaving fantasy managers to think he’s better off as someone else’s problem. That’s the wrong way to approach Kupp. He still has a very high PPR upside that can help your roster dominate, thanks to his fourth-round average draft position (ADP).
Sure, Kupp has missed 13 games over the past two years. Yes, he’s on the wrong side of 30. But I’m not foolish enough to forget how important he is to this offense. Last season, Kupp registered seven or more targets in nine of the twelve games he played. His outputs in Weeks 5 and 6 (19.8 and 27.8 PPR points) show he still has it.
Matthew Stafford battled a thumb injury during the season, which slowed the entire Rams attack. Once Stafford and Kupp were both healthy, we saw vintage Kupp performances of 25.5 points in Week 14 and 25.1 points in Week 15.
Entering Week 1, our 2024 fantasy football WR rankings have Kupp listed as WR23 for the season.
Cooper Kupp points projection: Should you draft Rams WR?
A projected points comparison through Sportskeeda's 'Who Should I Draft' tool outlines Kupp's massive potential.
Kupp, per Fantasy Points Data, still managed to finish among the top 20 receivers in targets per route run (.26), despite his injuries. Now that’s down from his 2022 numbers of .31, which was third-best among receivers. Back in 2021, he finished second among all wideouts who saw at least 50 targets in the category.
That said, the Rams offense still runs through Kupp, or at least he’s tied for the lead. The addition of Puka Nacua takes coverage away from Kupp, which is a good thing. In the past, his gaudy numbers were inflated because he was targeted so heavily. Now as the Rams pose multiple threats to defenses, Kupp can find less attention from defensive schemes.
Last season, Kupp’s highs and lows frustrated his fantasy owners. From Weeks 8 – 12, he failed to crack five PPR points. In the fantasy playoffs, he went off for 25 points in Week 15, only to cool off with 10.9 and 12.7 points in the semis and championship rounds.
Where should you draft Cooper Kupp?
I’m bullish on a healthy Kupp returning major fantasy dividends this season. As your second or possibly third receiver drafted in round 4, it’s a swing for the fences moves that also provides week-to-week stability.
I’m not scared away from Kupp because of his age or injuries. I’m playing to win. If your idea of a WR 3 on your fantasy team is someone with a 25-point upside who can see 10–12 targets a week, draft Cooper Kupp.
