Could a Tom Brady Patriots reunion be on the cards? Rob Gronkowski reveals odds of Buccaneers QB heading back to New England
Tom Brady could be a free agent at the conclusion of the 2022 - 2023 season and his future is unknown. There's rampant speculation as to where the 45-year-old will go should he decide not to retire. One such rumor is a return to where his NFL career began, the New England Patriots.
Brady's teammate of nine seasons with the Patriots, Rob Gronkowski, chimed in on Brady's possible return to New England. In an interview with Fox News, Gronkowski said both sides would have to be receptive to the reunion. Here's what he said:
"I mean, if Tom really wanted to, I'm sure that it would be all open arms to go back to New England. I would just have to say all parties would need to want it. But he has the opportunity to go wherever he would love to go. It's Tom Brady."
The current Tampa Bay Buccaneers star had great success with the Patriots in his two decades with the Patriots. Brady led the Patriots to their first Super Bowl victory in Super Bowl 36 (2002). He would go on to win five more Lombardi Trophies with New England before signing with the Buccaneers in March 2020.
A possible reunion with the Patriots after this season could be a reality should the three-time NFL MVP decide to move on from the Buccaneers. Doing so could also potentially convince Gronkowski to come out of retirement again for old-time sake with Brady. The former NFL tight end has done it before.
Could Tom Brady sway Rob Gronkowski out of retirement and sign with the Patriots next season?
When Tom Brady signed with the Buccaneers, Gronkowski came out of retirement to join him. The tight end retired after the 2018 - 2019 season before reuniting with Brady. The duo won Super Bowl 55 (2020) with the Buccaneers in their first season together.
Gronkowski was a four-time All-Pro who made the Pro Bowl five times in his nine seasons in New England. He had four 1,000-yard receiving seasons and led the league in touchdowns with 17 in his second season in the NFL. In total, Rob Gronkowski caught a total of 90 touchdowns from Brady's arm in his career.
That being said, it remains unknown if the future Hall of Fame tight end will return once more at age 33. We will see what Tom Brady does after this 2022- 2023 season concludes. This appears to be the first domino that needs to fall.
