Creed's incredible halftime performance during 2001 NFL Thanksgiving game deserves a deep rewind

Popular in the '90s, Creed might just be known for some meme content by youngsters today. However, not many can forget their impact and their iconic 2001 NFL Thanksgiving performance. Even 21 years later, the performance serves as the perfect nostalgic bout one looks for during the holidays.

On November 22, 2001, Creed stepped up their game at the Texas Stadium for the Dallas Cowboys and Denver Broncos Thanksgiving game. The performance, quite literally, had everything from songs and a medley to some flying men.

The home crowd of 65,000 watched as aerialists wowed with their skills. Creed performed "Higher," "My Sacrifice" and "Don't Stop Dancing" in a medley, out of which the last two were from their third album.

Fans had the opportunity to see them perform those live, as their third album (Weathered) was released days before the performance. While some might think of it as cringeworthy, it still makes for some of the greatest content the NFL has produced.

The aerialists, on their end, were probably what caught everyone's eye. Draped in what seemed like neverending bedsheets, they flew using them as their wings. Focusing on stunts as Scott Stapp sang, not many were expecting such a spectacle for the Thanksgiving game.

21 years ago today, still remember like it was yesterday.

Simpler times.

Even to this day, fans continue to reminisce about the performance. For many, the medley and unexpected makeshift wings were a part of their childhood, meme-worthy or not.

The Cowboys lost the game 24-16.

Creed are currently on a hiatus as a group, with their last studio album released in 2009.

This will be another 'Red Kettle Kickoff' performance, now a tradition for the Cowboys. It's also in partnership with The Salvation Army, which works to promote the Red Kettle Campaign.

The Jonas Brothers said:

"We couldn't be more excited to return to AT&T Stadium and play The Salvation Army halftime show. We are honored that our performance will help raise awareness of the great need that exists and encourage everyone to donate to The Salvation Army to make a difference in their communities this holiday season and all year long."

The Giants-Cowboys NFL Thanksgiving game is scheduled for Thursday, November 24 at 4:30 PM EST. The game and performance will be broadcast live on FOX, while fuboTV will stream the game live.
