Damar Hamlin GoFundMe update: Bills safety’s charity cause scales $7M mark as donations keep pouring in
Following the injury to Damar Hamlin, fans of all teams (not just the currently afflicted Cincinnati Bengals and Buffalo Bills) have stunned the world with their donations to Hamlin's GoFundMe.
What initially started as a toy drive with a $250,000 goal has seen a tremendous increase in traffic. It now has upwards of $7 million, with tons of NFL stars donating.
The Indianapolis Colts and Jim Irsay currently have the top donation with an astonishing $25,003 figure.
The GoFundMe, found here, reads:
"This fundraiser was initially established to support a toy drive for Damar’s community, sponsored by the Chasing M’s Foundation. However, it has received renewed support in light of Damar’s current battle and we can’t thank all of you enough. Your generosity and compassion mean the world to us."
During the first quarter of the Monday Night Football game for Week 17, Tee Higgins caught a pass and turned upfield and into Hamlin, who made the tackle.
After getting up from the tackle, he collapsed and needed CPR and AED before being rushed to the hospital. Fans have come together in the wake to support the player.
Damar Hamlin update
The latest update on Damar Hamlin still has him in a hospital bed fighting for his life. He remains in critical condition, though doctors yesterday said he was trending upwards.
Hamlin's childhood friend and former teammate (now with the Indianapolis Colts) Rodney Thomas II, insists he is going to get better. He said that there is no doubt in his mind. He also said, according to CNN, that he knew Hamlin could hear what he was saying.
Visiting Hamlin in the hospital gave Thomas renewed confidence that his friend would get better:
“It calmed me way down. It made the trip home a lot easier. I could go home and know he’s gonna be straight. I got him. We all got him. Everybody’s behind him.”
Hamlin remains in intensive care and has a team of medical professionals working around the clock with him. He remains in critical condition and is in the thoughts of everyone around the league.
