Davante Adams once revealed how his injury benefited Aaron Rodgers and other receivers

Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers have developed a camaraderie on the football field during their time together with the New York Jets and the Green Bay Packers. Though they haven’t had the best of times at their new home, they shared an impressive record with the Packers. Adams established himself as the Packers' leading receiver but an injury in 2019 opened a door of opportunities for other WRs on the team.

Back in October 2019, The Athletic interviewed Adams after he missed three straight games due to a toe injury. The Packers were set to face the Kansas City Chiefs, most probably without Adams, but their offense was doing wonders without him. In the three games leading up to the Chiefs contested, they averaged 33 points and 421 yards per game.

“I see how it is,” Adams said. “It has opened up more opportunities for other people. It’s gotten the quarterback used to consistently making plays with other guys. And that obviously builds his connection with them, which is important.”

Aaron Rodgers acknowledged Davante Adams as his favorite target

Davante Adams was undoubtedly Aaron Rodgers’ favorite target at the time. The had targeted Adams 169 times in 2018, a stat that didn’t perturb Rodgers at all. When asked why he didn’t spread the ball around more, he responded unhesitatingly.

“He’s that open,” Rodgers said. “We’ve got to keep finding ways to get him the ball. There’s nothing wrong with having a go-to guy who’s that dynamic and trying to find ways to get him the ball.”

At the time of his injury, Adams had caught 25 passes for 378 yards. Meanwhile, other receivers accounted for only 25 receptions for 305 yards.

While the injury gave other receivers a chance to shine, Rodgers acknowledged that Adams would find his place back as the leading receiver once he was fit.

"I can promise you we need him, and we’re a better offense with ‘17’ on the field.”
