Eagles' first Super Bowl victory in Super Bowl LII: The storybook tale of a backup QB
Super Bowl LII was played on February 4, 2018, at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Philadelphia Eagles, champions of the NFC, faced off against the New England Patriots, champions of the AFC.
Doug Pederson's Eagles had a solid regular season, finishing with a record of 13-3. They won their division and defeated the Atlanta Falcons before beating the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Championship game to advance to the Super Bowl.
Quarterback Carson Wentz led the team's offense, completing 352 passes for 3,296 yards and 28 touchdowns. He was the MVP front-runner until he was injured in Week 12 and was out for the season. Most believed the Eagles' season was over with them unlikely to win with backup Nick Foles under center.
Nonetheless, he led them to three straight wins before being rested in the regular season finale. The defense was led by defensive end Brandon Graham, who recorded 9.5 sacks that season and was coached by defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.
Bill Belichick's Patriots once again had a fantastic season, finishing with a record of 13-3. They won their division and defeated the Tennessee Titans before topping the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC Championship game to advance to Super Bowl LII.
Quarterback Tom Brady led the team's offense, completing 385 passes for 4,577 yards and 32 touchdowns, winning his third MVP award. The defense was solid, with a great secondary, led by safety Devin McCourty, who recorded four interceptions that season.
Super Bowl LII: The Hollywood redemption story of Nick Foles
Super Bowl LII was a thrilling offensive showdown, with the record for most yards combined in a Super Bowl being set that day. The record for the most points by a losing team was also set.
Nick Foles and the Eagles offense were incredible, scoring 41 points, and went on to win by a score of 41-33. Foles was named Super Bowl LII MVP after his outstanding performance. He threw for 373 yards, three touchdowns, and caught a touchdown pass in a play now famously known as "The Philly Special." The win marked the Eagles' first Super Bowl victory in franchise history.
