EXCLUSIVE: “He handles his business, he’s a pro” - Trevor Lawrence raves about WR Christian Kirk’s breakout season since joining Jaguars
The jaguars" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-is-sponsored="false">Jacksonville Jaguars were big spenders in free agency last season, dropping a whopping four your-year $72 million contract worth up to $84 million on wide receiver Christian Kirk.
Kirk spent the first four seasons of his career with the Arizona Cardinals, piling up 236 receptions for 2,909 yards and 17 touchdowns. Although he was one of the top wide receivers in the free agency, many thought the Jaguars overpaid him.
He's proven doubters wrong this season, setting career highs in yards (988) and touchdowns (seven).
Quarterback Trevor Lawrence spoke with Sportskeeda in an exclusive interview and raved about Kirk's impact.
“He’s been awesome," Lawrence said. "He approaches things the right way. He handles his business. He’s a pro. He’s a guy you never have to worry about, especially as a quarterback."
Lawrence added that the two are always on the same page with one another.
"Always knows his job," Lawrence said. "We’ve talked about almost every situation, so we’re always on the same page. And just being one of the leaders in that room, the receiver room, too.
"For young guys, they have a guy to look at that does things the right way and can follow in his footsteps, along with Zay (WR Zay Jones) and Marv (WR Marvin Jones) and other guys, but Christian has been a great addition for us, not only just his production, but I think off the field, the way he’s led and the way he’s really just led by example and how he goes about his business has been, I think, impressive.
"We’re close, too. He’s a good friend of mine. I think that aspect of it plays into it, too. It all goes together. Got a lot of respect for him and what he’s been able to do.”
Trevor Lawrence will try to help Christian Kirk reach 1,000 yards this Sunday
Christian Kirk has had his best season with the Jacksonville Jaguars statistically this season, more than any other year in his fifth season.
He has a career-high 988 yards receiving and a career-high seven touchdowns receivings, while being one reception away from his career best of 77 a season ago.
Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence is going to try to get him to surpass 1,000 reciving yards in a single season for the first time in his career.
“What does he need? Twelve yards? I hope we can get him 12 yards!" Lawrence said. "If we can’t do that, we have other problems. We’ll see.”
Jacksonville will face the Houston Texans on Sunday before closing out their season with an AFC title on the line against the Tennessee Titans.
