Fantasy Football Buy Low Sell High Trade Targets for Week 8 feat. Jaylen Waddle, Travis Kelce, Rachaad White and more

Halfway home in the 2024 Fantasy Football season, trade deadlines are rapidly approaching. Check your league settings to see when your league cutoff is. It’s likely that you only have another two to three weeks until the trade window closes. Now is the time to get aggressive and make your move.

Every year, people send me messages on X (@DrakeFantasy) about their teams. They ask me lineup questions or if they should do a particular trade. What I don’t hear enough of are roster management questions. Nor do I get people who want to make the wholesale changes needed to win your league.

Folks, only one person is going to win. If your roster today, in Week 8, doesn’t have the firepower to contend, what are you doing? Why waste your time? To win in this crazy game, you need a little luck, but also you have to put yourself in a position to win. That means grinding the waiver wire, looking weeks ahead at schedules to exploit matchups, and buying low on players who may have been injured or are coming off a tough matchup.

I mentioned roster management. That’s ensuring you have the best starting lineup possible and building “playable depth” in case of injury—having balance to withstand injuries and down performances.

I often see players asking to trade one player for another at the same position. Mostly, these are the equivalent of swapping deck chairs on the Titanic. It doesn’t matter. Are you getting impact players who have high floors and week-winning upside? If not, rethink the offer.

I also get people asking me about “winning the trade.” That’s a phrase we need to stop using. Did your team get better? If it did, the trade was a success. I don’t care if you must move your best player to improve at two other positions. Nobody is untouchable. If you can get incredible value for your stud players, it’s OK to move them.

With that said, here are some players I’m looking to buy as the trade deadline approaches.

Buy Low Trade Targets

1] DeVonta Smith (PHI, WR)

I put my money where my mouth is and did this exact transaction in my biggest league. Smith is coming off a down week where the Eagles ran for 269 yards. Smith’s quiet outing could give his owner pause about holding him long-term.

Here’s why you need to acquire the former Heisman Trophy winner: SCHEDULE. This upcoming slate of games is a total joke. Three of Philly’s next six games are against teams who are in the top 10 of points allowed to receivers. The Eagles play exactly one good pass defense from now until the end of the season, Pittsburgh in Week 15. Smith is also past his bye.

2] George Pickens (PIT, WR)

Another player I’m actively trying to acquire in every league. Pickens is the most talented receiver by a mile on the Steelers offense. Now that Russell Wilson is under center, this offense can move the football. Pickens is set to explode as a downfield threat. Pickens saw nine targets in game one with Russ and turned them into 111 yards and a score.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. Pittsburgh’s upcoming schedule features six of eight games against teams that rank in the top 10 points allowed to opposing receivers. He is an alpha. Easy buy.

3] Deebo Samuel (SF, WR)

While battling pneumonia that landed him in the hospital, Samuel became the undisputed number-one receiver on the Niners. His running mate, Brandon Aiyuk, was lost for the season with a knee injury. Deebo is set to eat as the most complete threat the 49ers have at the moment.

Acquire Samuel today, as his owner is scared by the news of his illness. Samuel is set to explode, as my friend Dwain McFarland of Fantasy Life notes in this tweet.

4] Rachaad White (TB, RB) - It’s unfortunate that Tampa Bay lost receivers Chris Godwin for the season (ankle) and Mike Evans (hamstring) for at least four weeks. With the depth at receiver light, to say the least, I believe the Bucs will lean on their pass-catching running back, White, to help shoulder the load.

White was fourth among all RBs last season with 64 receptions. Week 7 saw White record his third game with six targets. Without their leading receiver duo, my money is on White playing a major role in Baker Mayfield’s passing attack.

5] Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Devon Achane (Miami)

This is very simple. Tua Tagovailoa is set to return. When he does, the fantasy points will follow. I’ve been begging you for weeks to do this; it’s last call.

6] David Njoku (CLE, TE)

No tight end has a better rest-of-season schedule than Njoku. Starting in Week 8, when he plays the TE funnel, which is the Baltimore Ravens defense, it wheels up for big David. It’s all lining up. Amari Cooper is out of town. He’s likely the top target going forward. Deshaun Watson is done, enter gunslinger Jameis Winston. Njoku saw 14 targets without Cooper in the lineup. That number could be his weekly average. Buy now.

1] Travis Kelce (KC, TE)

Sell on the name. The Chiefs just acquired DeAndre Hopkins. He can command the ball in the short and intermediate areas. Kelce has just two games with more than five targets. I’d love to move him to fill another hole and pick up someone like Cade Otton, who will be my tight end going forward.

2] Marvin Harrison Jr. (ARI, WR)

It’ll be hard to sell Harrison because he’s done nothing this year. But we’ve seen a large number of receivers go down over the past week, so owners are hurting for receivers. Arizona has the 8th-hardest remaining schedule for WRs. Arizona has shown they have no idea how to get him the ball. Sell him to someone who is dying for anyone with a pulse at the position.
