NFL Free Agency rumors: Two frontrunners emerge for Bobby Wagner's signature

In a shocking development, the Los Angeles Rams have reportedly decided to let go of their star linebacker Bobby Wagner just one year into his stint with the team. Wagner, who signed a five-year deal with the side in 2022, was recently cut by the team despite his All-Pro season.

The belief is that the Rams did so to free up some cap space heading into what will be a crucial 2023 NFL season. With Wagner now a free agent, he'll be on the wishlist of multiple NFL teams.

If reports are to be believed, two frontrunners have emerged for his signature. The New England Patriots are one, and the other is a potential blockbuster return to the Seattle Seahawks.

With the Seahawks, the linebacker won it all back in Super Bowl XLVIII. If a star of his caliber is back on the market, Pete Carroll's side could likely make a move to make the reunion happen.

Seahawks GM John Schneider was asked about the prospect of having the linebacker back on the roster. He, though, remained tight-lipped over the matter:

"He’s not released yet, he’s not on the waivers, so congratulations to whoever scooped that. He’s still technically on their roster so we won’t be able to speak to his agent for a minute or two – which is actually he, himself."

Bobby Wagner contract: How much did former LA Rams star earn?

Bobby Wagner signed a five-year, $50 million deal when joining the LA Rams. Of that amount, he earned $6.5 million in 2022. A total of $5 million of this amount was in the form of a signing bonus.

The All-Pro linebacker was set to earn $20 million in guaranteed money. Had the deal gone through in completion, he would have made $11 million in 2023, 2024, and 2026, and another $10.5 million in 2025.
