Garrett Wilson stats today: How did the Jets WR fare against Texans in Week 9?

Garrett Wilson's role within the New York Jets offense diminished over the past couple of weeks. With Davante Adams joining the team via trade with the Las Vegas Raiders, Wilson went from 33 targets in Weeks 5 and 6 to only 17 in Weeks 7 and 8.

However, that doesn't mean that the wide receiver is less important to the team. In fact, this was the exact idea: put Adams alongside the young receiver and let them both shine with Aaron Rodgers as their quarterback. In fact, in Week 8 against the New England Patriots, he had his season high in receiving yards (113).

Dividing the WR1 spot helps the entire offense. Defenses are now concerned with how to defend two excellent wide receivers instead of focusing on just one. That's exactly what happened during Thursday's game against the Houston Texans.

  • Carries: 0

This was a great game for the young receiver. After a poor first half, he helped the team with two touchdown catches in the second, including a strong contender for best catch of the year:

The first touchdown was also special. He ran a crossing route against man coverage from Texans safety Jalen Pitre on a 3rd & 19, was able to hold on to the ball with a one-handed grab, and not only converted the long third down but also reached the end zone.

He was extremely efficient with a 90% catch rate during the game, and his two touchdowns helped the team win a game for the first time since September. It was also the fourth time in five games that he had at least 90 receiving yards.

Wilson had two great seasons with the Jets, crossing the 1,000-yard mark in both of his first seasons. Now with Aaron Rodgers, he's playing even better, already with five touchdowns in the 2024 NFL season.
