Going from Derek Carr to Tom Brady is a backward move for the Raiders: Looking at the future of Las Vegas

The 2022 NFL season has come to an abrupt end for Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady. The legendary signal-caller willed his team into the playoffs, despite a season in which his team underperformed across the board. Luckily for Brady and Co., they played in a highly-uncompetitive division, the NFC South. Having played what might've been his final game as a Buc, will Brady end up going to the Las Vegas Raiders?

Are the Raiders downgrading with Tom Brady in 2023?

The three teams expected to be in on Tom Brady for 2023 are the Raiders, 49ers and Dolphins.

After a highly-publicized split, the Raiders appear to be moving on from longtime quarterback Derek Carr. Whether it's via a trade or release, Carr will be playing elsewhere in 2023. As for Brady, the prevailing talk on sports media is that he'll reunite with Josh McDaniels. The latter is his longtime offensive coordinator, with whom he won multiple Super Bowls as a member of the New England Patriots.

Some would argue that Tom Brady going to the Raiders makes sense for a litany of reasons. For example, no one knows McDaniels' system better than Brady. The talent in all of the skill positions is superb, headlined by superstar wideout Davante Adams.

You also have to figure that Brady will want a strong run game, which the Raiders possess, thanks to McDaniels, and the league's rushing title winner, Josh Jacobs. Furthermore, Brady gives the Raiders the option of drafting a quarterback in 2024, when the quarterback class will be much stronger.

The Raiders could be reaching for fool's gold with Tom Brady

While the Raiders have weapons, they don't have a good offensive line. It flashed at times, especially in run blocking, but both Carr and Jarrett Stidham were running for their lives during the season. What do you think is going to happen when that unit is blocking for a soon-to-be 46-year-old?

Brady still managed to record 490 completions this season, which was higher than last season by five completed passes. However, the yards per passing attempt dropped by a whole yard from 7.4 to 6.4. His touchdown totals also took a massive hit, going from 43 to 25 this year.

In Brady's defense, he played behind second- and third-string linemen for most of the season. Be that as it may, he'll be in the same boat or worse with the Raiders.

The Raiders need a mobile quarterback who can extend plays and will be able to escape the pocket when protection collapses. Tom Brady, at his age, is going to take sacks, then go off and yell at his coaches and teammates when it happens. Looking at this entire ordeal, Brady's Raiders have the makings of a disaster. If he's serious about going out on a winning note once more, it shouldn't be the Raiders.
