"He just pisses me off" - When one ex-Dolphins QB sounded off on Tom Brady for perceived disrespect
Legendary NFL quarterback Tom Brady is loved by many. However, there is at least one individual who isn't Brady's fan, and it’s former Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Fitzpatrick. The two share a long history of not liking each other, and they have never shied away from expressing it publicly.
Fitzpatrick once explicitly shared his thoughts on Brady during an interview on the "Pardon My Take" podcast in September 2022.
“Man, I've told this story before, but he just pisses me off,” Fitzpatrick said.
So, the story goes back to episode 2 from season 4 of "The Shop: Uninterrupted" on HBO, where Brady went unfiltered while referring to an unnamed team and QB.
The moment in reference was from 2020 when Brady attained free-agent status after leaving the Patriots. Almost everyone wanted Brady, who by then had cemented his place as the undisputed GOAT by winning Super Bowl 2019.
However, one team decided to stick with their QB, and Brady was pissed off at the news. He said:
“One of the teams, they weren't interested at the very end," Brady said. "I was thinking, you're sticking with that mother(expletive). Are you serious?”
Though fans and pundits believe that Brady was referring to Derek Carr or Jimmy Garoppolo, Fitzpatrick is sure that it was the Dolphins.
“It had to be me,” the 42-year-old said.
He further added that he doesn’t have any respect for the NFL legend.
“He’d never shake my hand.”
Ryan Fitzpatrick finally gets a handshake from Tom Brady
The two faced each other on multiple occasions, and as expected, Brady had the overall edge. However, Fitzpatrick is happy that on two occasions, he was able to get over Brady, in 2011. An excited Fitzpatrick waited for the post-game handshake ceremony, but Brady didn’t come out. This didn't go down well with him as he said:
“It just bothered me so much because there was no respect there. Every time I played him after that, I was like, 'All right, let's make this dude respect me.'"
He eventually had the last laugh with Brady’s final regular season game for the Patriots in 2019, who needed a win to secure the top spot in the AFC. But the Dolphins ended up winning 27-24. This time, he finally got the handshake he was looking for.
