How Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb could avoid $40,000-a-day fine for holding out of training camp

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is holding out for training camp as he looks to get a new contract. Lamb is entering the fifth year of his rookie deal as he's set to make $17.9 million, as Dallas picked up the rookie option.

With Lamb only having one year left on his deal, he is holding out of training camp as he seeks another deal. But, if players hold out of training camp, they are subject to $40,000 fines for every day they miss.

However, Dallas can waive the fines due to Lamb still being on his rookie contract.

"Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb is holding out with no financial risk. He is subject to a $40K fine for each day of training camp he misses but, because he still is on his rookie contract, Dallas can opt to waive any accrued fines, per the collective bargaining agreement," Hill Jr. reported.

Whether or not Dallas will waive the fines is uncertain, but it does seem likely they would if they can get a long-term deal with Lamb signed before the season starts.

Lamb recorded 135 receptions for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns last season as he was the Cowboys' top receiver.

Jerry Jones discusses the value of CeeDee Lamb

CeeDee Lamb was selected 17th overall in the 2020 NFL draft by the Dallas Cowboys and he has become their top receiver.

Lamb is one of the best receivers in the NFL, and back in March, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones gave an interesting comment about Lamb's value.

"He's out there and he's more valuable than anybody else," Jones said, via the team website. "But that valuable, to have to give up four or five players to have him, you have to get that reconciled. That's what I'm trying to say. It's a lot quicker and easier said than done.
"Whoever has CeeDee, and I hope it's us, they're going to use him," Jones added "You have to. You just have to get that kind of mileage out of him. What has he shown us? That he's capable of carrying that load. We've gotta have focus."

In his NFL career, Lamb has recorded 395 receptions for 5,145 yards and 32 touchdowns.

If Lamb's holdout continues into the season, Dallas' top receiver would be Brandin Cooks.
