Is Aaron Rodgers playing today? Latest on Jets QB for preseason opener vs Washington Commanders
The Washington Commanders will face off against the New York Jets on Saturday, August 10 at MetLife Stadium and there are several storylines to look forward to when the two franchises go at it this afternoon.
But if Jets fans were wondering if Aaron Rodgers is playing today, they're in for a little bit of disappointment. According to CBS News, the four-time MVP will not suit up in the preseason opener against the Commanders. Tyrod Taylor, who's second on the Jets depth chart, will likely get the nod in Rodgers' absence.
However, Rodgers did travel with the team and was spotted signing autographs for Jets fans in the build-up to the game.
Saleh told reporters earlier this week:
"Woke up this morning and saw the weather. He's taking every rep in practice, so I just felt it was unnecessary. Heightened environment, unfamiliar foes in terms of taking care of one another. I just didn't want to expose him to do it."
Heavy rain has been predicted for the game this afternoon and Saleh is clearly taking adequate precautions to make sure his star quarterback is in top shape for Week 1.
How to watch Commanders vs Jets live
The Commanders vs Jets game will kick off at 12 PM Eastern from MetLife Stadium. Commanders fans can catch the game live on WUSA9. Jets fans can turn to CBS instead.
Fans can also stream the game on DIRECTV with a five-day free trial or catch the game live on Paramount+ with a subscription.
Players to keep an eye out for during Commanders vs Jets
Aaron Rodgers isn't playing today but that doesn't mean there's little to look forward to this afternoon.
Jets fans will likely catch a glimpse of rookie running back duo Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis. Olu Fashanu, the Jets' first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, is also expected to get some game time against Washington.
Another intriguing player to keep an eye out for is Will McDonald. The edge rusher had a disappointing rookie year but the Jets are still hopeful he can fulfil his potential in the long run. With Haason Reddick a holdout, McDonald will likely be given a chance to stake his claim in preseason.
