Is Brock Purdy Mormon? Details about QB's religious background
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy made his second career start on Thursday versus the Seattle Seahawks.
Purdy was born and raised in the state of Arizona and played college football at Iowa State. He is the middle child of Shawn and Carrie Purdy.
Faith has always been an important part of Purdy's life. In high school, he was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
In college, Purdy quickly found himself struggling in practice. He knelt and looked to God for help.
Purdy said via the Sports Spectrum Podcast in August:
“It was just a great reminder of where my identity is, where it lies. And it’s in Jesus. And I continue to lean on Him. Again, the next day I didn’t go out and throw for 500 yards and was this awesome quarterback, but it was just this peace that I had with Him knowing that, ‘Hey, no matter what I’m going to face moving forward during college football, God and Jesus are going to be my identity. And whatever I face, I won’t be shaken from it.’ I’ve got a great foundation in Him."
Purdy is definitely a deeply religious person; however, nothing suggests that the quarterback is a Mormon.
