Is Trevor Lawrence playing today? Exploring Jaguars QB's status for Week 10 clash vs Vikings

Year 4 was supposed to be a big year for Trevor Lawrence and his Jacksonville Jaguars. Lawrence is fresh off of signing a 5-year $275 million contract extension that tied him for the highest-paying quarterback contract in NFL history.

After the Jaguars just missed the playoffs last season, they're off to a very bad start with a 2-7 record.

Injuries, underperforming, poor coaching, and not being able to close out games have led to their lack of success.

In the nine games he's played in, Lawrence has completed just 61.3 percent of his passes for 2,004 yards, 11 touchdowns, and six interceptions. The Jaguars are currently in last place in the AFC South division with their 2-7 record.

On Wednesday, Jaguars coach Doug Pederson told local media that Trevor Lawrence would be limited in practice with what was called "upper body soreness." Lawrence practiced on a limited basis.

On Friday, the Jaguars got discouraging news about their starting quarterback's status as multiple reports came out saying that Lawrence is very unlikely to play on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings.

Trevor Lawrence has only missed one game in his NFL career. He missed the Jaguars' Week 17 game against the Carolina Panthers last season.

Hours before the game, Lawrence was confirmed to be out vs Vikings.

With Lawrence trending towards being out of Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings backup quarterback Mac Jones is in line to get the start.

Jones was traded from the New England Patriots to the Jaguars for a 2024 sixth-round draft pick. He was named a Pro Bowler during his rookie season in 2021 and was selected 14 picks after Lawrence at pick 15 overall.

In the case that Lawrence doesn't suit up on Sunday, C.J. Beathard will be Jones' backup. The Jaguars signed Beathard earlier this week off of the Miami Dolphins practice squad.

This is Beathard's second stint with Jacksonville as he was Lawrence's backup for the last three seasons. He was released in August as the team made their final roster cuts.
