"It has some extra constraints": When Aaron Rodgers spoke about fame's 'decreased privacy' affecting real-life relationships
NFL legend Aaron Rodgers is always in the spotlight, whether he is on the field or not. However, the quarterback doesn’t like the spotlight much, especially when it infringes on his privacy.
By 2017, Rodgers was a well-known name in the NFL after winning the Super Bowl in 2011 with Green Bay and two NFL MVP awards. He was a celebrity by then, but in an interview with Mina Kimes of ESPN, published in September 2017, he revealed how fame affected his relationship.
“When you are living out a relationship in the public eye, it's definitely ... it's difficult,” he said.
“It has some extra constraints because you have other opinions about your relationship, how it affects your work, and, you know, just some inappropriate connections.”
Aaron Rodgers settles in LA to stay away from fame
Aaron Rodgers was probably referring to fans who would question if the QB’s ex-girlfriend’s presence was affecting his presence. But Rodgers took it lightly as he asked Mina Kimes:
“They're such misogynists, right?”
In the same interview, Rodgers revealed that the fame brings him discomfort by decreasing his privacy.
“And increased strain or pressure or stress associated with relationships. Friendships and dating relationships,” he said.
Rodgers dated actress Olivia Munn from 2014 to 2017. Munn first thought he was a college football player when he introduced himself as an athlete. Munn was actually attracted to Rodgers.
Though Rodgers was a successful player, he gained celebrity status later, after his second MVP award. Since he didn't like fame much, he decided to reside in LA despite growing up in a small town and owning a house in San Diego.
“They see a lot more famous and recognizable people than me every day,” Rodgers said for the people in LA.
Aaron Rodgers never signed up for privacy infringement
A few years later, when Aaron Rodgers won his third NFL MVP, he became more famous than before. During the second episode of the "Enigma" series, he looked back at his past relationships and said:
“I didn't do myself any favors with some of the girls I dated after that that were in the public eye. I definitely hated it at first—like, really despised it. I enjoyed my private life. I enjoyed being able to go places. But from Super Bowl MVP, MVP, State Farm commercials, that got a little bit more difficult.”
“I never signed up for that,” he added.
A-Rod is currently with the New York Jets who are 4-10 heading into Saturday's game against the LA Rams.
