Jalen Hurts adds another historic achievement to MVP-esque season

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has had a superb season. After leading his team to a 13-4 record and an NFC East division title, the Eagles are now the first team in the Super Bowl after defeating the San Francisco 49ers 31-7.

Hurts, for many, is one of the leaders for the MVP award, and against the 49ers, he made some unique history of his own. Known as being more a running back than a quarterback last year, Hurts flipped the script this season. He developed into a star quarterback, but his running ability also shone through.

Who are the Super Bowl favorites?

He made the list for the most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback, including the playoffs, in a single season, but where does his tally rank him? Let's take a look.

Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kordell Stewart comes in at number three. After leading the Steelers to a 11-5 record throwing for 21 touchdowns, but it was with his legs that he also did damage.

This day in #PGHistory: Kordell Stewart outduels John Elway, scoring five touchdowns for Pittsburgh, as the Steelers beat the Broncos 35-24. (1997)

Stewart's three passing and two rushing scores would account for all of Pittsburgh's touchdowns on the day.

Stewart rushed for 11 regular-season touchdowns and two more in the playoffs, taking his tally to 13. A proper dual-threat quarterback by any measure.

# 2 - Cam Newton 2011 - 14 touchdowns

If there ever was a quarterback who could win MVP as a quarterback and as a running back, it was Cam Newton. The former Carolina Panthers star had a superb 2011 season.

Cam Newton has some crazy stats. 14 rushing touchdowns his rookie season 👀 https://t.co/4rlnKQmbNH

Newton's tally of 14 rushing touchdowns is impressive, but when you factor in that it was his rookie season and Carolina didn't make the playoffs, it gets even better.

Newton was a star in the air and on the ground as he changed how the quarterback position was played.

# 1 - Jalen Hurts 2023 - 15 touchdowns
