Jauan Jennings Waiver Wire Fantasy Outlook Week 8: Should you add 49ers WR?
The San Francisco 49ers are clearly not where they want to be after seven weeks of football. A 3-4 record does little to strengthen their credentials of making another trip to the Super Bowl with time running out on their Lombardi Trophy window. And if the record wasn't enough of a concern, the franchise was handed another major blow after Brandon Aiyuk was ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a torn ACL and MCL.
With Aiyuk out, the Niners will now have to figure out how to get Jauan Jennings and rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall more involved in the proceedings. Here's everything you need to know if you're thinking aobut picking Jennings off the waiver wire in Week 8.
Jauan Jennings waiver wire fantasy outlook for Week 8
Look, we know Deebo Samuel is going to be the alpha in this receiving room regardless of if Aiyuk is on the field or not. And Samuel has been known to pick up his game when the chips are down.
Per Fantasy Life data, Samuel sees 38% of the target share, which is a massive upgrade. The flip side of this is that Samuel could see himself walking into a pre-Davante Adams Garrett Wilson role where Wilson faced double and triple coverages on the regular.
Enter Jauan Jennings.
Jennings picked up a hip injury and wasn't seen in practice all week but his role in this receiving corps takes on added importance after Aiyuk's ACL + MCL injury. So far, Jennings has registered three games with over 60 receiving yards with a season-high of 175 yards against the LA Rams in Week 3 that delivered three touchdowns.
Per FantasyPros data, Jennings has had an 18.9% target share and a 23.1% first-read share, numbers good enough to have him down as a flex play when the rest of your roster is tied up in more taxing matchups.
At present, he is rostered in 45.6% of ESPN leagues and 29% of Yahoo! leagues.
