Josh Allen 40 time: How did Bills QB fare at 2018 NFL Combine?

The NFL Combine is just around the corner, and as the event comes into focus, fans are knocking the rust off by looking back at how some of today's stars fared in the talent showcase. Among them, Josh Allen is getting plenty of interest as one of the premier quarterbacks in today's version of the AFC. One of the most common questions asked about players is their 40-yard dash time.

Here's a look at how fast the quarterback is and how he did in some of the other tests, according to NFL media.

And it all started at the 2018 Combine.

The Bills quarterback was able to sprint for 40 yards in 4.75 seconds. For reference, wide receivers are usually the fastest players on the field, and they mostly tend to range from about 4.30 to 4.40.

In comparison, while the quarterback wasn't going to beat any receivers in the race, he wouldn't embarrass himself and would be able to outrun a lot of defensive linemen, especially if he has an angle advantage.

Will any records be broken at the NFL Combine this year?

Since the end of the Combine, he's shown 4.75-speed multiple times and kept plays alive because of it. In a similar test, a three-cone drill, he earned 6.90. The three-cone test measures how fast a player can accelerate, decelerate and change direction.

Of course, teams look at much more in the NFL Combine than just 40-yard dash times in preparation for the draft. Allen was also measured to be 6' 4 7/8" tall and 237 pounds at the combine. Over the years, the quarterback's large frame has proven to be an asset in terms of staying healthy under physical duress and comfortably seeing over linemen.

He was also tested in his ability to jump, which really was a measurement of leg strength. The measurements are an indication of how likely he is to break tackles. For example, if a player is dragging him down, his leg strength will play a big factor in how far he can drag the player.

It could be the difference between a punt and a first down. In the broad jump, he hit 9' 11", and in the vertical jump, he reached 33' 11".
